Ingredients
- 1 cup crunchy corn cereal (recommended: Cap’n Crunch)
- 1 cup crispy rice cereal (recommended: Rice Krispies)
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 12 chicken tenders, halved
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 1/2 cups canola oil
- Green Onion Honey Dip, recipe follows
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Put the 2 cereals into a gallon-sized bag and seal. Place on a flat surface and, using a rolling pin, crush the cereal until it’s still slightly chunky. Pour into a medium sized bowl and add the flour, salt and pepper and mix to combine.
- Dip the chicken pieces into the beaten eggs, 1 at a time, and transfer to the breading mix. Coat well and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Pour the oil into a large saucepan and place over medium-high heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Test the oil by dropping a bread cube in; if it browns within 1 minute the oil is ready. Drop the chicken nuggets into the hot oil, 4 pieces at a time, and cook 2 minutes, or until the breading is golden and the chicken is cooked through. Repeat with the remaining chicken nuggets. Keep warm in a low oven until ready to serve.
- Place all ingredients in a small bowl and mix until well combined. Refrigerate until ready to use.

Family favorite for years!! It sounds weird but it is soooo good!!!!
Captain crunch??? Disgusting….
Dan and Steve are always truly Entertaining.I bought 2 copies of their 1st.book.This is a great, not too Sweet Chicken Nuggets recipe.I Believe it does appeal across to All Ages. Not huge amounts of Sugar to make Children too Busy minded, yet, a great taste. As an Adult,I enjoy the occasional Cap’n Crunch bowl of cereal.A dipping sauce for All.Just know Honey is not for Anyone under 2 years of age unless Pediatrician gives,”ok”.
We made this recipe for a birthday party in which we had about 25 people. Everyone raved about the chicken, the dip wasn’t really liked to well. I used about 11 lbs. of chicken and while everyone was full there was no more chicken left and people were still asking for more and for the recipe!
We used a personal deep fryer with no problems. My eight year old executed all of the steps on her own with litttle intervention–but I did supervise to ensure safety.
The result was tasty even for adults.
I made these chicken tenders for my son’s birthday party and they were a hit! The green honey dipping sauce compliments the tenders perfectly! Thanks Hearty Boys.
I made these for my family and we all loved them. I then made them for my daughter’s first birthday party. Two people left the party with the recipe. It has a sweet taste and reminds my family of Chik fil A. No it is not exactally like the restaurants but that same look and sweet taste is similar.
These taste great. I like to omit the “crisped rice cereal” and add a little red pepper, but the recipe is great.
I just wish it were a little easier, but that’s because I’m not good at breading.

Easy and fun
I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about this recipe when I first saw it. I made the dipping sauce first and had a little taste,…still skeptical. Then I made the nuggets. What a great combination!!
I usually throw 3 big parties a year, and I try new recipes out on smaller groups in between. This recipe was a total hit last night. I even had to make copies of the recipe for my guest. This one is a keeper and I will be making it for my next big bash!!
