Yield: 50 wings

Ingredients

  1. 2 tablespoons butter
  2. 1 large shallot, chopped
  3. 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  4. 2 ounces bourbon
  5. 1/2 cup brown sugar
  6. 1/2 cup honey
  7. 1 tablespoon ancho pepper, finely chopped
  8. 8 ounces chili sauce
  9. 8 ounces barbecue sauce
  10. 3 ounces wing sauce
  11. Oil, for frying
  12. 50 chicken wings
  13. Blue cheese dressing, for serving
  14. Bourbon, for serving

Instructions

  1. For the sauce:
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter. Add the shallot and garlic cloves and saute, about 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the bourbon, brown sugar and the honey to heat through, 1 minute. Next add the ancho pepper, chili sauce, barbecue sauce, and wing sauce and cook, stirring occasionally for 2 minutes. Keep warm until ready to serve.
  3. For the chicken wings:
  4. Heat oil in a deep-fryer. As you make the sauce, drop chicken wings, in batches (the amount you drop in at 1 time will depend on the size of your fryer) into the deep-fryer. Fry until golden brown on both sides. Remove the wings from the oil and drain.
  5. Add the wings to a large mixing bowl and toss in the sauce, coating each wing.
  6. Serve blue cheese dressing and 1/2 shots of bourbon, on the side, for adults to sip.

Best sauce for wings ever!

10 Stars!! These are amazing! They were literally devoured and now my family wants this sauce on ribs and chicken! You could use whatever BBQ sauce and spicy chili sauce you have in the fridge and it will be delicious. This sauce will make whatever you’re cooking – wings, drums, breasts, even ribs – the best they’ve had!

Interesting and tasty wings but it is wrong to call them Buffalo wings. Buffalo wings are a particular recipe based on cayenne pepper sauce and butter. Buffalo wings is not a generic term for wings and I would be heartily annoyed to order Buffalo wings and get these instead.

Great!

This sauce recipe was awesome. I did these on the grill instead of frying, and they were the best wings I have ever had!

This is one of the best buffalo wings sauce I have made. All of the men in the house gobbled it up. It had the perfect heat level to it and was so easy to make.

This sauce is amazing!! I cooked it on the side burner of the grill and we dipped individual grilled wings into the sauce as we plated. Talk about finger licking good!! I can’t wait to try this great sauce as a BBQ sauce, but first, I’m going to use it as the sauce for cocktail meatballs. I used Sweet Baby Ray’s regular BBQ sauce, Lousiana Wing Sauce, Bennett’s Chili Sauce and used Guajillo pepper instead of Ancho knowing the difference is minimal. We didn’t even bother with the bleu cheese dressing because it was awesome as is!

You may be thinking what I was thinking when me and my father were looking at recipes “Oh these are sweet bbq wings, they wont be hot at all” we made them to try it out and we were wrong, it tasted like the best bbq sauce you can think of but with some heat and depending on what store bought hot sauce you use, you can make it as spicy as you want. Five star wings
