Easy Almond Sticky Buns

Ingredients

  1. Nonstick baking spray
  2. 6 small or 3 large brioche buns, split
  3. 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  4. 2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar
  5. 1/2 cup golden syrup, such as Lyle’s
  6. 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  7. 1/4 cup orange marmalade
  8. 1 teaspoon finely grated orange zest plus 2 tablespoons orange juice
  9. 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  10. Pinch of fine sea salt
  11. 3/4 cup toasted slivered almonds

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Spray a 9-by-13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray.
  2. Butter the cut sides of the buns with half of the soft butter and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar.
  3. Melt the remaining butter in a medium saucepan over high heat. Add the golden syrup and brown sugar and cook until melted and smooth. Whisk in the marmalade and orange zest and juice and cook, stirring occasionally, for 2 minutes. Whisk in the heavy cream and salt. Pour the syrup mixture into the baking dish and scatter the almonds evenly over the top.
  4. Put the buns in the syrup, cut-sides down, and bake until the syrup is bubbly, about 20 minutes. Remove to a cooling rack and let cool for 10 minutes. Invert (carefully!) onto a platter and eat.
