Store-bought tortellini are the star of this quick and creamy weeknight meal. They simmer in their own sauce, making this a one-skillet meal with easy cleanup. Try one-inch pieces of Italian sausage instead of chicken for a variation.

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
- 2 pinches freshly grated nutmeg
- 1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan
- Kosher salt
- 18 ounces frozen cheese tortellini
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces (about 1 1/4 pounds)
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
- Heat the heavy cream, butter, nutmeg, 1 cup of the Parmesan and 1 teaspoon salt in a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat, whisking occasionally, until the cheese and butter are melted, 3 to 4 minutes. Add the tortellini and simmer until cooked through, 4 to 5 minutes. Add the chicken and sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup Parmesan.
- Bake until the chicken is just cooked through, the sauce has thickened and the top starts to turn golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with the parsley.

I would like to try this recipe but I have a couple of questions. Are the tortellini added frozen or thawed? If adding spinach is it fresh and sauté’d or do you use frozen and drained ? Whoever answers thank you in advance for your reply . DLK
After reading the reviews I decided to cook the chicken part way before adding it to the sauce and added garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning to it. I also couldn’t find frozen tortellini so I par cooked what I had. The taste was great. It didn’t have a lot of sauce though. Next time I will double the sauce and add spinach. It’s a good recipe, it just needs tweaking.
Made this tonight, added 4 garlic cloves, crushed red, and frozen spinach, otherwise followed the recipe. Taste was delish but didn’t end up with a lot of sauce. Would make again and make more sauce than recipe calls for.
Made this tonight and it was delish. Simple and fast. I will admit to making some changes….1) I added three cloves of crushed garlic to the sauce along with some crushed red pepper. 2) I messed up and put all the cheese in the sauce so had to add more cream and then again more cheese on top for baking. 3) I added in some julienned sundried tomatoes to at least have some vegetable. But totally delicious. When I make it again I may add in some breadcrumbs with the parm for topping.
This was amazingly easy, and quick. Took me an extra 10 minutes to cut the chicken and find the spices 😀 The kids (5 and 7) loved it. The 7 year old actually went back for 2nds. Easily enough for 4 people, at least in my family. Will be making it again
This meal was so quick and good! I added about two shallots and some fresh garlic and it really kicked it up a notch. Will def make again 🙂
I used half the chicken and tortellini and all the sauce. I used parmigiano Regiano and it was delicious!,
This is a favorite of my family. Surprisingly easy and quick. Tastes like it took longer to make. I’ve substituted ground nutmeg for the fresh and once I’ve left it out all together and it still tastes amazing. I had it saved to my favorites for so long, I’m glad I finally made it. It’s now on regular rotation.
This was delicious! I used Italian sausage instead of chicken and Parmigiano Reggiano instead of Parmesan. The fresh parsley was the perfect finishing touch! This dish was quick and easy to prepare.
Had this last night. It was great! My hubby was grilling chicken for us to eat salads for lunch so I just had him grill a little extra for his dish. I think the grilled chicken probably made it even better. I reheated the leftovers in the skillet today. Just added a little of my leftover heavy cream to freshen it back up.
