Ingredients

  1. Deselect All
  2. 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  3. 2 tablespoons whole milk
  4. 2 large eggs
  5. 1 cup store-bought fried onions, chopped into finer pieces
  6. 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  7. 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  8. 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  9. 1/2 pound green beans, trimmed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a sheet tray with parchment paper.
  2. Set up a dredging station: Place the flour in a medium bowl. Whisk together the milk and eggs in a second medium bowl. Stir together the onion pieces, panko, salt and pepper in a third medium bowl.
  3. Dip the green beans first into the flour to coat, shaking off any excess flour, then dip the beans in the egg mixture to coat. Finally, dip the beans into the panko-onion mixture and place the green beans on the prepared sheet tray, about 1/4-inch apart.
  4. Bake the green beans, turning them over halfway through baking, until they are golden and crispy, 12 to 15 minutes. Transfer to a platter and serve immediately.

While delicious, this is NOT a “busy mom” dish, took a lot of time, but was yummy at the end

Yumm! Those are tasty and fun. I blanched a bunch of beans earlier today and put these the fridge for dinner tonight. I came across this recipe and it is very tasty! I would serve with a dip. Like a chipolte may or similar. Alone, they are still EXCELLENT!! Thank you!

For the record I hate dredging things. So it has to be worth it to do it. These were pretty good. Made a small batch for myself to test it out. And generally just put small bunches in each bowl to get done faster. I think I will add more seasoning to the panko/onion mix next time and also take the advice of another reviewer and add parm. But nice addition to the veggie options with lots of green beans in season.

These were outstanding! I did add some grated parmesan cheese. Will definitely make this again. I made it as written except for the cheese.

I crushed the fried onions fairly fine in a ziplock bag rather than cutting them. I also rinsed my beans and left them slightly wet before dredging in the flour so it would adhere better. Both steps helped to get a nice coating that came out very crisp in the end. They could use a bit more seasoning but otherwise an excellent recipe.
