Sandwich Filling

  4.6 – 7 reviews  • Beef

This soup pairs well with a casserole or pot pie and is very hearty. Picky diners enjoy it because of the simple components, and those who want complex flavors will.

Servings: 8
Yield: 8 sandwiches

Ingredients

  1. ½ pound lean ground beef
  2. 8 ounces tomato sauce
  3. ½ cup finely chopped onion
  4. ½ cup chopped black olives
  5. ¼ cup chopped pimento peppers
  6. 1 (8 ounce) can mushrooms, drained and chopped
  7. 8 ounces extra-sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  8. 1 ½ teaspoons chili powder
  9. salt and ground black pepper to taste
  10. 4 hamburger buns, split

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  2. Cook and stir ground beef in a large skillet until well browned, about 10 minutes; drain fat. Place cooked beef in a large bowl. Stir in tomato sauce, onion, black olives, pimentos, mushrooms, Cheddar cheese, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Spoon sandwich filling on hamburger bun bottoms, spreading to the edges. Filling should be approximately 1/2″ thick in the center of the sandwich.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until the edges start to bubble, 5-10 minutes. Turn oven to Broil and continue to cook until heated through, about 3 minutes.

My whole family really enjoyed these the only change I made was to substitute red bell pepper for the pimento because I didn’t have any on hand. I will happily make these again, thanks for sharing!

I have made and reviewed this before but having made it again I would say again how good it is. This time I made it like a French bread pizza and when almost done I put some extra shredded cheese on top and turned on the broiler to melt it. Don’t walk away.

I used dark rye bread instead of buns (4 large slices cut into 1/2’s). The guys really seemed to love it as a football watching snack!

May not be much to look at, but they are absolutely delicious!

This was good, but not amazing. I will probably make again sometime when I want something easy.

I used veggie crumbles instead of beef and salsa instead of tomato sauce, but these were very good! They were somewhat like mini pizzas.

Mmm, mmm, good. I didn’t have the pimentos, but I did have a can of red kidney beans, so I used that instead. I also added 2 finely chopped garlic cloves along with 1/2 a tsp of sugar and this came out really good. To me, this is a 5 star keeper. Thanks for sharing.
