Creamy Iced Applesauce Bars

A unique salad that most definitely isn’t low calorie! Very well-liked by my family and friends as a side dish or entrée.

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups applesauce
  2. ½ cup milk
  3. ½ cup warm water
  4. ½ cup orange juice
  5. ¼ cup white sugar
  6. 1 tablespoon poppy seeds, or more to taste
  7. 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  8. 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  9. ¼ cup dulce de leche, or more to taste

Instructions

  1. Blend applesauce, milk, warm water, orange juice, poppy seeds, cinnamon, and nutmeg together in a blender until smooth. Pour into a loaf pan, cover with plastic wrap, and freeze until very cold, at least 1 to 2 hours. Cut into squares or bars and top with a dollop of dulce de leche.

I made this recipe with unsweetened applesauce and left out the nutmeg to better suit my family’s taste. I loved it, and the rest of my family thought it was pretty good. It reminds me of an apple granita. I made individual portions by line muffin cups with plastic wrap, pouring in the blended mixture, and freezing it.

Delicious! I made this with “JUALONSO”‘s Dulce de Leche recipe which is what I think really made it good. The only problem was that after it froze for over two hours, the middle was still liquid but the two edges were firm enough to cut. Overall, great recipe!
