Instant Pot® Buffalo Wings

  4.5 – 19 reviews  • Chicken

Simple Instant Pot® method for cooking buffalo wings without frying. These are cooked to perfection in the Instant Pot®. They stay put for simple handling, but as soon as you bite into them, they become unbelievably delicate. If preferred, serve with carrot and celery sticks and ranch dressing.

Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 30 mins
Additional Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 40 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 2 pounds wings

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup water
  2. 2 pounds chicken wings
  3. ¾ cup buffalo wing sauce
  4. 2 teaspoons dry ranch dressing mix

Instructions

  1. Pour water into a multi-functional pressure cooker (such as Instant Pot®). Set trivet inside and place wings on top. Secure the lid, seal, and select Manual setting. Cook on high pressure according to manufacturer’s instructions; set timer for 10 minutes. Allow 10 to 15 minutes for pressure to build.
  2. Mix wing sauce and ranch dressing mix in a large bowl. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  3. Release pressure carefully using the quick-release method according to manufacturer’s instructions, about 5 minutes. Unlock and remove the lid carefully. Transfer wings to the bowl of sauce using tongs. Toss to coat.
  4. Place a wire baking rack over the foil-lined baking sheet and arrange wings on top.
  5. Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven’s broiler to high. Broil wings for 5 minutes. Flip wings and cook until crispy, about 5 minutes more. Toss with any remaining sauce if desired.

Over cooked the wings as I pressure cooked from partially frozen for 7 min. Broiled as per direction. Even after 10 min was not crispy. Had to do the air fryer for a few min. Never again. Thrilled it was less than a pound that was waisted

This is my go-to recipe for the best wings with a zip. I’ve tried alot of wings over the years and this makes them delicious. I read a number of reviews that talked about the sauce not sticking to the wings. My solution to that was before coating the wings, I put the wings on the wire rack and cookie sheet and convection/bake for 10/15 minutes to dry off the wings before coating. Coat as directed, convect for 5 minutes. Turn over, recoat wings, and convect another 5 minutes. ENJOY

Excellent recipe! I followed this recipe except I added garlic powder to the sauce and I put mine on the BBQ for 5 minutes rather than broiled them.

Great recipe! I have never made wings before although I have eaten enough over the years. I was glad to use my Instant Pot as I hate chicken that isn’t cooked. This recipe worked great. I didn’t have the dry ingredients listed so I put half of my wings into a dry Jerk Spice and tossed them. The other half I coated in Blue Cheese dressing. They worked out great. When I turned them to cook side 2 under the broiler they started smoking a bit after about 3 minutes so keep an eye on them! Thanks!

Great quick wings – used 2 different sauces but the wings themselves were tender and perfect. Ran out as everyone kept eating!

The chicken was very tender and falling off the bone. Was a good flavor but not conducive to the wing sauce staying on the chicken wing.

Best wings ever me an my family just love these I make them very often!!!

Tried this recipe out in my Breville pressure cooker because I LOVE chicken wings. Results were just “meh”. Way too tender (fall-off-the-bone) for my tastes. In addition, the sauce was just so so, not as robust as I like. Deep fried is my favorite method, but not as healthy. Recently tried in an air fryer with quite satisfying results, will probably stick with that.

I made these and had a couple want to fall off the bone taking them out of the Instapot. It did take a little longer under the broiler than five minutes for me. They turned out very well and I will make them again.

I made this for a party and everyone RAVED about them. I used chicken thighs instead of wings and they were unbelievable!

Loved it! Added a little garlic powder to wings before cooking. They were easy and yummy!

Very tender. I needed to broil them 7 minutes a side to get them crispy. Definitely plan to make them again!

I made the first set of wings (my Instant Pot only fit about six wings on the trivet) to the letter for the recipe. They came out great except that I had a hard time getting the sauce to stick to the wings. I found the best way to do this was cook them as instructed in the Instant Pot, then coat them in the sauce, broil them for five minutes, coat them again, and broil them for three minutes. This gives the wings a saucier flavor and allows for easy dipping as they are no longer “wet.” All in all, these turned out great and were a big hit!

Excellent recipe. My picky grandkids loved it and wanted more. Will double recipe next time. This is also great as a carry in. One change made as kiddos loathe anything hot and spicy. Stuck with Ranch Dressing all around. Love the idea and technique of finishing under the broiler.

Excellent recipe and fall off the bone goodness!
