Ingredients

  1. 2 cups quick cooking oats
  2. 1 cup all-purpose flour
  3. 1 cup brown sugar
  4. ½ teaspoon salt
  5. ½ teaspoon baking soda
  6. ¾ cup butter, softened
  7. 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  8. ¾ cup peanut butter
  9. 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together the oats, flour, brown sugar, salt and baking soda. Cut in the butter to form a crumbly mixture. Reserve 1 1/2 cups of the crumbs, and pat the rest evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. In a medium bowl, stir together the sweetened condensed milk and peanut butter. Spread evenly over the oatmeal layer. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the peanut butter layer, then crumble the reserved crust over the top.
  3. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

Not the decadent bar I expected from the ingredient list. Overly sweet and crumbly. These satisfy a sweet tooth, but flavor falls flat. Next time I’d reduce the brown sugar and condensed milk by 1/3. Easy to make, filling possibilities are endless.

Disappointing. These were nothing more than thick granola bars with added peanut butter. So thick we had to refrigerate to even eat them. Won’t make them again,

The method didn’t mention butter, so it needs an edit. The ingredients mentioned it. Almost forgot it. I made this & it was double toddler & Gamma approved! I added raisins in mine too.

I made tHese to take to a potluck/cookout and they were all eaten. I liked them, but liked other recipes more, I may have over baked them a bit. I would make these again when needing a large amount of dessert. If making for only 2, I think I will reduce the recipe to half because they are heavy, chewy bars. The peanut butter flavor is very light, almost non-existent.

I did not have enough chocolate chips so threw in some white chocolate and also butterscotch chips to make the difference. Wow! Big new favorite around here! I liked the bars with the chips I had to use very much but trying all chocolate chips next time. Thanks for the recipe.

These were delicious! I made them by the recipe except I used regular rolled oats instead of quick cooking, just because that’s all I had. I appreciate the recommendations to heat the peanut butter/milk mixture because otherwise spreading it over the crust would’ve been a huge mess. I also lined my pan with foil to make for an easier cleanup. The only thing I might change next time would be to add more chocolate chips — maybe 1 1/2 cups instead of just one cup — but that’s just a personal preference. Either way, these were a huge hit in my family and I will be making them again!

Delicious. Says to cool but a wonderful desert warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We never have quick cook oats, so used regular. Just fine and will fool you into thinking you are eating something healthy.

Hits the spot Lovers of chocolate, caramel, and peanut butter will not be disappointed. I didn’t have enough brown sugar so topped up with white, which probably contributed to a drier than desired topping (brown contains more moisture). Also I didn’t have enough sweetened condensed milk so topped up with corn syrup. Kept bars in fridge for last 1.5 weeks and almost finished eating (1 or 2 per Coronavirus lockdown day)! Will make again, but only when I have enough brown sugar. Satisfies craving for something sweet for sure!

These are good, but they are very heavy and filling … almost a little dry because of the peanut butter. I like – but I would probably half the recipe next time. Too much of the same for my taste.

This recipe is very good!!!!! Once you try one, you won’t be able to stop eating them!!! I made the recipe as is and it is very good. My advise would be to cut them while they are hot and do not over bake them. I made the mistake of overbaking by an extra 10 minutes as I thought it was not brown enough. Big mistake! I forgot that this are not chewy type of bars. The condensed milk and peanut butter are like hard REALLY hard candy if you over bake them, so cutting them is a challenge once cooled off. My other advice is the type of peanut butter you use. If you use the already sugary brand, you may be able to decrease the brown sugar. If you use the less sugary but creamy, definitely use the full amount of brown sugar the recipe calls for. Also, warm up the peanut butter and condensed milk mixture to make it easier to spread. After keeping these suggestions in mind, you should not be able to stop eating them, guaranteed!
