Ingredients

  1. 2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
  2. ½ cup cold water
  3. ¾ cup water
  4. 2 cups white sugar
  5. ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract
  6. ¼ teaspoon lemon extract
  7. ⅛ teaspoon cinnamon oil
  8. 3 drops green food coloring
  9. 3 drops yellow food coloring
  10. 3 drops red food coloring
  11. ¾ cup white sugar for decoration

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle gelatin over cold water and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, bring 3/4 cup water to a boil. Stir in 2 cups sugar and boil 5 minutes. Stir in gelatin mixture. Allow to boil gently for 15 minutes.
  3. Dip three shallow, small pans in cold water, then remove. Remove boiling mixture from heat, and divide evenly among three heat-proof bowls. Flavor one bowl with peppermint, one with lemon, and one with cinnamon. Tint the peppermint green, the lemon yellow, and the cinnamon red. Pour each mixture into its own pan and let rest overnight to set.
  4. Turn gumdrops out onto a sugared board and cut into squares with a sharp knife. Roll cut gumdrops in sugar. Let stand until firm.

My Mom and I made these for the first time and they are delicious! We made raspberry, orange and peppermint.. Didn’t care for the peppermint but the others taste amazing!

This is perhaps the most epic recipe failure I have ever tried. There is no specified pan size, which really threw me for one. I had just about every square and rectangle pan ready because I wasn’t sure how much this would yield. Alsop the amount of gelatin seems a bit off – it seems standard to measure unflavored gelatin in ‘packets’, not tablespoons. Needless to say, I will find a new recipe for gumdrops!

These are not gumdroppy at all. Think set jell-o that was left out at room temp. Needs to cook longer, or like 3x as much gelatin or something. As written, these are pretty, but squishy and not workable.

This recipe didnt turn out for me at all, all i got was a sticky gelationous glob. Followed this recipe by the letter, 15 minutes isnt long enough. Maybe if i just cook it to 250 degrees instead of where it ended up (around 225). Still, this is a good start, with some tinkering, im sure these gumdrops will be delicious!
