this recipe is very good In fact I am going to make this thing for my birth day because it was just a few days ago.
I think it was a little dry flavor great I did add oatmeal to the topping and 1/2 white and 1/2 brown sugar.
Added little extra nutmeg for more Apple pie aroma & taste..lemon juice instead of orange. Sub 1/4 of sugar for brown sugar.. Extra topping to offset lemon. Love it…too easy.
Thought it was pretty good. Have tried another recipe on this site that uses oatmeal in the toppings that I prefer! But this did the trick and put smiles in our tummies! Made it per the recipe, except like a lot of others used 1/2 brown sugar and 1/2 splenda for the topping. I also added some pure vanilla extract to the orange juice.
So easy,…It turned out perfect…this recipe is a definite keeper
Absolutely delicious! The only thing different I did was used quite a few more apples (which I recommend!). I baked it in a 9×9 glass baking dish. Yummy!!!!
This is pretty good. The orange juice is okay in it, but I prefer crisps that I have made that add lemon juice or just a little water. Also, I at least doubled the cinnamon. It cooked perfectly and made a nice dessert.
I was a hit!
Oh my word!!!! This is the best apple recipe ever! I only changed the sugar to 1/2 brown and 1/2 white sugar. I wasn’t even able to take a pic to post. It’s great warm, cold any which way. Thank you for sharing this recipe. It’s definitely being done again!!
Great recipe. I did add about 2 cups more of the apples. The topping is wonderful. Didn’t change anything else. Crisp, crunchy topping with soft gooey apples. Was delicious topped with a scoop of ice cream.
Delicious! I also used the same recipe but with peaches instead of apples and no nutmeg.
Super easy to make. I’ll put less sugar next time.
It’s so easy & SO DELICIOUS!
I cooked for 25minutes and it was well cooked. I reduced sugar to 3/4 cup and it is still too sweet for me will try 1/2 cup next time.
I followed the recipe and added 2 tablespoons of oatmeal. After I removed it from the oven I went to get my phone to take a picture…my husband had grandson had a taste!
I added white sugar and cinnamon to apples. Made topping with remaining ingredients and 1/2 teaspoon allspice. It was crazy good.
Absolutely delicious and easy to prepare. I substituted the cup of white sugar for a 1/2 cup white sugar and half cup brown sugar. Also, I added a 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts on top of the apples before adding the crumble mixture. Served with vanilla ice cream. Thank you for the recipe.
My husband and I loved this! I used all Cortland apples, (about 5 apples) , used 1/2 C white sugar, 1/2 C brown sugar. Kept everything else the same but baked for 1 hour. Was really delicious! Will definitely be making this again. Super easy recipe!!
I’ve used this recipe for over forty years. I first found it in a USDA cookbook published in the 50s. It always turns out great. Since kids are grown and I live alone now I found a great way to continue enjoying this dish. Mix the dry ingredients and store. Then when I want this, peel and slice apple and place in a small baking dish. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of orange juice. In another dish measure 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon of mixed dry ingredients. Cut 2 tablespoons of butter into dry ingredients. Scatter over apples then bake. Amazing with a scoop of ice cream!
I’ve been using this recipe for years and it’s always good. Originally found it in a cookbook from the 1950’s.
delicious recipe, but I changed a few things, 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cups white sugar. to the crumble I added 1/3 cup of old fashioned oats and 1/4 cup each of chopped pecans and walnuts. I also sprinkled cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg on apples before adding crumble. I also mixed dried cranberries to the apples.
