Ground Turkey Taco Meat

  4.7 – 147 reviews  • Ground Turkey Recipes

The ground turkey will give your tacos an incredible flavor and fewer calories! Although it is a bit hot, our family prefers it this way. You wouldn’t even be able to know it wasn’t ground beef because of how flavorful it is. It tastes fantastic on baked potatoes or in tacos.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 30 mins
Servings: 3

Ingredients

  1. 1 ½ tablespoons chili powder
  2. 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  3. 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  4. 1 teaspoon salt
  5. ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  6. ½ teaspoon onion powder
  7. ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  8. ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  9. 12 ounces ground turkey
  10. ½ cup water
  11. 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  12. 1 ½ teaspoons brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, and cayenne in a small bowl.
  2. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add ground turkey and cook, stirring to break up clumps, until no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Stir in spice mixture and water. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid is absorbed, about 10 minutes.
  3. Stir in cider vinegar and brown sugar; simmer until flavors combine, 3 to 4 minutes. Transfer to a serving bowl.

I used 1/2 the spices, and added real garlic and onion instead of powder. Also added chicken stock instead of water. I always add green olive, avo, Trader Joe’s kumato toms, shredded cheese and beans to my taco salads, btw. Deeelicious!

I would cut the spices down a bit , it was a little overpowering especially the chili powder!

Followed the instructions only adding onions and brown sugar to taste. Quick easy and delicious. Thanks for the recipe. Would have included pictures but dish didn’t make it to the table long enough. lol

I toned down the spicy spices so my kids would eat this. And they actually did–a rare win. I’m sure this would be just as delicious with actual spiciness to it.

Nice balance of seasoning ❤️

Wonderful recipe! I just added a can of rinsed pinto beans and a can of Rotel to your recipe to make a pot of cowboy beans for our supper. Your measurements for apple cider vinegar added brightness, and the brown sugar gave the right amount of sweetness. Thank You! This is a keeper!

Great spice level

Because it was a little spicy, next time I will not use as much chili powder or cayenne pepper. It was very good, however, you really do not realize it is turkey.

made it without the vinegar or sugar, it was awesome! what constitutes a serving tho? a cupful? how many grams? I made this as a part of meal prep

Delicious!

This was so fab. Super excellent. Using the same amounts given in the recipe i used various other chili powders—ancho, chipotle, de arbol and new mexico red. I didn’t think it needed sugar or vinegar, but definitely didn’t hurt it at all. I will make this over and over again.

I made the recipe as written and it tasted delicious! The brown sugar and cider vinegar are a nice touch. Great way to change up the Mexican style seasonings I normally use for ground turkey. I saved this recipe and will definitely make again!

I like it but need to cut the spices in half. It was bit overpowering.

Great recipe! Only change I made was adding chicken bone broth instead of water. We had romaine lettuce tacos and they were wonderful without the greasiness of ground beef. Next time I will add a little lime juice as another reviewer did.
