Mixed Berry French Toast

Try this simple copycat recipe for Waffle House waffles if you’re wanting them; you won’t be able to tell the difference. Serve with butter, chocolate chips, and maple syrup.

Ingredients

  1. cooking spray
  2. 1 loaf Texas toast
  3. 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  4. ⅓ cup white sugar
  5. 1 ½ cups mixed frozen berries, thawed and drained
  6. 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  7. 8 large eggs
  8. 1 ½ cups milk
  9. ¾ cup maple syrup
  10. 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  11. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Coat a 9×13-inch pan with cooking spray. Layer 1/2 of the bread in the pan.
  2. Beat cream cheese and sugar together with an electric mixer until creamy. Drop by teaspoonfuls over the bread. Layer mixed berries on top; layer on remaining bread. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  3. Mix eggs, milk, maple syrup, butter, and vanilla extract together in a bowl and pour over bread. Press with a spatula to soak up mixture. Cover and refrigerate, 8 hours to overnight.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until golden and set, 45 to 50 minutes.
  6. You can use fresh berries instead of frozen.
