Honey Soy Tilapia

This simple tilapia recipe is a favorite of my husband’s.

Ingredients

  1. 3 tablespoons honey
  2. 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  3. 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  4. 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  5. 2 (3 ounce) fillets tilapia
  6. cooking spray
  7. 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Mix the honey, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, and garlic together in a bowl. Place the tilapia fillets in the mixture; allow to marinate in refrigerator at least 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a baking dish with cooking spray.
  3. Remove tilapia from marinade, and discard the marinade. Place fillets into the prepared baking sheet, and sprinkle the black pepper over the fish.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until the fish flakes easily with a fork, 15 to 20 minutes.

My husband and I did not like it. It was very bland. Perhaps I should marinate it overnight to get the honey-soy taste. I’ll give it another try over Lent.

I substituted fresh garlic with garlic powder and had to use salmon but it’s abolutely delicious .

Easy and delicious! I added a teaspoon of minced garlic as well and only put in 2 Tbsp of honey (my bottle is almost empty). This does make quite a bit of sauce; I used just over a pound of tilapia and there was plenty of sauce.

We thought this was excellent. I had 27 oz of fish so I just tripled the recipe. It was plenty. I used a little coconut amino’s for some of the soy sauce. I put in lots of garlic and used a high quality balsamic. So good.

I didn’t bake it, I placed it in a pan with a little olive oil and brushes the sauce in it. Worked well!

We love asian flavors but for some reason this marinade seems to bring out the fishy flavor (more than the lemon garlic way I’ve been baking them recently).

This dish lacked flavor. The best thing about this recipe is made it with only two pieces of tilapia and there weren’t any leftover. The fish was very soft and it needed a lot of spices. I alway make the recipe as its called for first. I don’t think I’d be making this again. My hubby usually likes everything I make, but this one wasn’t a winner.

I love this recipe. The only thing I changed was instead of throwing all that marinade away, I baked the fish in it. Then I used it as a sauce when I plate the fish. And yes, it still bakes in the 25 to 30 minutes as the recipe states.

Good flavor, however I find (and found again with this recipe) that 350° for 20 minutes is insufficient. Particularly with tilapia that is marinated. Other than having to make some temp and duration adjustments, the tilapia came out just fine.

absolutely fantastic recipe. I tweaked it a little. I added Dill and old Bay. I also cooked it in a pan and used the sauce to kook it. I added mushrooms and onions to yhe pan. AMAZING.

I was skeptical about marinating tilapia in honey, but I was wrong! This was great! I used apple cider vinegar instead of balsamic, added Sriracha, and marinated it in the baking dish instead of a bowl to get a nice even marinade. I followed all other directions and it was awesome! Even Husband who claims to not like tilapia ate it all and then asked that I make more for him to take for lunch the next day.

Delicious tasting and so quick/easy! I added a sprinkle of sesame seeds before baking, otherwise no changes.
