Hungarian Pizzelle

This thin and delicate variation of the traditional pizzelle is made by my Hungarian grandma. Store in an airtight jar after sprinkling with confectioners’ sugar.

Ingredients

  1. 3 eggs
  2. ¾ cup white sugar
  3. ¾ cup melted butter
  4. 1 teaspoon anise extract
  5. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  6. ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  7. 1 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat pizzelle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Beat sugar and eggs together in a bowl using an electric mixer. Add butter, anise extract, and vanilla extract; beat until blended. Add flour and baking powder gradually; beat until smooth batter forms.
  3. Drop a spoonful of batter onto the preheated iron. Bake until golden, about 45 seconds. Carefully remove pizzelle and cool on a cooling rack.
