My most popular recipe is this one! It’s a great addition to any Christmas or Thanksgiving feast.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Additional Time: 2 hrs 45 mins
Total Time: 3 hrs
Servings: 20
Yield: 20 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 (6 ounce) package cherry-flavored gelatin mix (such as Jell-O®)
  2. 1 ½ cups boiling water
  3. 2 (14.5 ounce) cans whole berry cranberry sauce
  4. 2 oranges, peeled and chopped
  5. 1 cup diced apple
  6. 1 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Dissolve cherry gelatin mix in boiling water in a bowl; stir cranberry sauce and oranges into gelatin. Refrigerate until mixture is thickened to the consistency of egg whites, about 45 minutes. Mix apple and walnuts into gelatin, transfer to a serving dish or mold, and chill until firm, about 2 more hours.

Omitting the apple this is the recipe my mom and grandmother made. I only change is the walnuts to black walnuts and toast them before chopping them.

We love this! We make it for Thanksgiving every year. It tastes just like the one my aunt made every year at our big family gathering when I was a kid. I was picky, but I dared to try it and found it I really liked it. Now that I have 10 kids of my own and make Thanksgiving dinner for my own family, I went searching for a recipe that matched the one my aunt must have used. And this tastes just like it! My kids and husband are very happy that I added it to our menu. We keep it special and only make it for Thanksgiving.

This is a great substitute for plain old cranberry at the Thanksgiving table, and everyone loves it. In fact, they go hunting in the fridge for it the next day before the ‘heavy’ foods are even given a second thought.

I would make this again. I took it to a Christmas party and everyone liked it a lot. It was a hit.

This was a great addition to our Valentine’s dinner. I made it with raspberry jello instead of cherry, but I think any red jello would work. I might add a little more water as it was a bit sweet. Otherwise very tasty.
