I used another’s suggestion 1/2 white sugar 1/2 brown sugar.
This is my go to recipe! I love the citrus Tate.
Made this for Christmas 3 years ago (and making again this year) and everyone LOVED it! Love the super simple 3 ingredients. Makes a great hostess gift too for the holidays or anytime of year!
I have made this recipe numerous times. Always turns out you must make sure the cranberries pop they release natural pectin that’s what thickens it. You can add some cinnamon also if you like.
I make this family favorite all the time. I do suggest using the full amount of sugar. Any less (I TRIED to be healthier) and it’s bitter. Add anything (apples/nuts/cinnamon/vanilla) to this delicious, forgiving recipe.
This is essentially the same recipe I’ve followed for several years. I always add a little pumpkin pie spice and some extra ground cloves, but be careful that you don’t over-spice it. The orange juice adds a hint of citrus that I don’t recognize as orange at all.
Made as directed, it was a huge hit at Thanksgiving!
AMAZING RECIPE! My mom thought I was crazy for using orange juice instead of water but once it hit the table people loved it! Never buying canned again!
I have made this recipe for Thanksgiving for 5ish years now. I do half brown sugar and half white sugar. And add cinnamon which compliments the cranberry orange flavor nicely. While the taste is amazing, I always felt like the sauce was a bit bitter no matter how much I tried to balance the flavors. Read online that cooking citrus can turn it bitter. So I did an experiment this year and boiled the cranberries in 1/2 cup water for 6 minutes. Then added a 1/2 cup of fresh squeezed oj in just for the last 4 min. It made the world of a difference and there was no bitterness. Can’t recommend this recipe enough! Quick and easy. Family and friends devoured it and couldn’t believe it only took 10 min to make.
I had never made cranberry sauce from scratch until last holiday season. I will never buy the canned jelly stuff again! I’ve made this a few times now and just freeze it so I have it all year.
This is a recipe where you can add or subtract ingredients to your taste. Sometimes I use more sugar and less orange juice. I may add orange zest, cinnamon, and pecans, depending on what I have on hand. I make it in my slow cooker. This is so much better than the canned. I love it on turkey sandwiches. A local specialty restaurant serves this recipe on their ham and brie raisin bread sandwiches. Very popular with their customers.
I have made this recipe for the last 4 years exactly as written. The entire family loves it and seriously, it’s the easiest thing I make all day.
Very simple and fast works awesome
Added 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, 1 chopped apple & 1/4 cup chopped pecans. So easy & delicious!
This is an awesome way to make Cranberry Sauce. I modify it by adding fresh mandarin orange segments to it after I take it off the heat. It tastes really great.
I guess I’m in the minority, but I dislike anything made with heated OJ. I agree with others that using apple cider or just water is best, and always white sugar! I do use less liquid, like 3/4 cup to 12 oz cranberries
Used apple cider, best ever!
Great blog entry and ingredient base but whoah on the sugar. Especially if you use good organic cranberries. 2 TBLSP did it for me. Ultra delicious.
Love it! Simple to make and taste great!
Substituting a fresh apple cider for the OJ also works…..
Easy and delicious! I’ve made this several holiday dinners and love the taste and consistency! My family loves this recipe!
