Super-Easy Strawberry Shortcake

My mum taught me how to make this simple and excellent Cajun dish.

Ingredients

  1. 1 (16 ounce) package frozen strawberries
  2. ⅓ cup white sugar
  3. 1 (9 inch) angel food cake, sliced
  4. 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping (such as Cool Whip®), thawed

Instructions

  1. Mix strawberries and sugar together in a bowl until evenly coated. Refrigerate until strawberries are thawed, 8 hours to overnight.
  2. Place a slice of angel food cake on each plate; top with whipped topping and sweetened strawberries.
  3. Number of servings depends on the size of angel cake and how thick you slice it. Frankly, I can eat it all by myself.
  4. You can thaw the strawberries at room temperature for 30 minutes instead of in the refrigerator.
  5. If you have time, thaw strawberries slightly and slice them before you add sugar.
