Ingredients

  1. 2 cups sliced almonds
  2. 1 cup chopped pecans
  3. 1 cup chopped walnuts
  4. 1 cup sunflower seeds
  5. ⅛ cup sesame seeds
  6. ½ cup honey
  7. 2 tablespoons grass-fed butter
  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  9. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  10. ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  11. ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  12. ½ teaspoon ground allspice
  13. 1 cup raisins (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine almonds, pecans, walnuts, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds in a bowl.
  3. Heat honey and butter in a saucepan over low heat until butter is melted. Add vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt, cloves, and allspice. Stir together and remove from heat.
  4. Pour honey mixture over the nut and seed mixture; mix well. Spread evenly over the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven, stirring every 15 minutes, until golden brown, about 40 minutes. Let cool until granola crumbles easily. Add raisins after granola has cooled.
  6. Use any dried fruit you prefer.

First off, the bake time is way off. I gave the recipe the benefit of the doubt, but after only 10 mins, my granola was already getting pretty brown. I lowered the temp to 275F and kept going, hoping for the best. I ended up taking it out at 35 mins and it was way too dark and looked and tasted burnt. Unfortunately I had to waste ingredients and toss it. I tried it a second time and this time I started it out at 275F, stirred it at 10 mins, and took it out at 20 mins. MUCH better. Next time I might even try 15 mins. Nuts and seeds brown much faster than an oat-based granola.
