This pecan pie cobbler dish is simple to prepare and delicious. One pan is used to make both the cobbler and the sauce.

Prep Time: 20 mins
Cook Time: 1 hr 15 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 35 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 large turnip, peeled and cubed
  2. 2 tablespoons butter
  3. 1 pinch salt and ground black pepper
  4. 2 large apples – peeled, cored, and diced
  5. 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  6. 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  7. ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  8. ¼ cup brown sugar
  9. 2 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8-inch casserole dish.
  2. Place turnip into a large pot and cover with salted water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Drain and transfer to a bowl.
  3. Mash turnip, 2 tablespoons butter, salt, and pepper together until smooth.
  4. Toss apples with 2 tablespoons brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
  5. Spread half the turnip mixture into the prepared casserole dish; top with half the apples. Repeat with remaining turnip mixture and apple mixture.
  6. Mix flour, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons softened butter by hand in a bowl until mixture is an evenly coarse meal-texture; sprinkle over casserole.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven until cooked through and bubbling, about 1 hour.

Got this receipe from a friend whose daughter in law makes . Glad to find it on all Recipes as some people I know want try it when they hear about it or taste it . Saves me having to make a copy of it. Just tell them to go to All Recipes ABSOLUTELY delicious. Note : I am unable to chop the turnip or apples so I go to stores that sell them frozen . A lot less work Susan Wagg

This is delicious. I added some crystalized ginger and cut back on the sugar. We loved it.

Waaay too low on the turnips… you need at least 3 large turnips to make two layers. Also if it’s baked for an hour you only need to partially cook the turnips… came out too soupy.

It is very sweet and my turnip did not make enough to cover the dish twice, it was a small turnip I had considered using 2. But all in all not bad

This was my first time making turnips. I got them as part of at Misfit Markets box. We added a little vanilla ice-cream and had it for dessert. It was pretty good and my children ate it with no complaints.

This was a great side dish for turkey. Next time, I would add a pinch of nutmeg, too.

Really enjoyed this, Got some people to try it without telling them what it is and they liked it. Very easy to make and did not taste like turnip at all. I used rutabaga not turnip..not sure what the difference is Will make again for sure maybe for Christmas dinner and see if I can get a few more takers…

Used this recipe because I couldn’t find one for Kholerabi (I substituted for the turnip), still turned out pretty good. I also opted to not make it with the topping as well.

I have used this recipe many times and it is liked by even turnip haters.

This is a wonderful recipe, especially for those who claim to hate turnips. Wonderful and easy!

I added carrots and omitted the topping. I served it with homemade turkey sausage patties, which had apples, too. Everyone loved it.

Excellent dish! My whole family enjoyed it – even those that don’t like turnip!

We really enjoyed this! I only gave it 4 stars bc I did change it a bit. I added 3 carrots (about half a cup) which definitely improved the flavour & texture. My turnip yielded about 6 cups and the ratio between turnip, carrot & apple was well received by all, ages 1-51!

loved it!

Instead of using a turnip, I wonder if you meant to use a rutabaga? I used 1/2 a rutabaga and 3 small turnips. They went successfully with the apples. I didn’t use the topping, I’m not that fond of that much sweetness for my vegetables. It is what the recipe says, a turnip/apple dish!
