A wonderful, delectable Mexican rice casserole that the whole family will love! Tortilla chips and sour cream are served!

Ingredients

  1. 1 (12 fluid ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate
  2. 1 (6 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate
  3. 2 cups strong brewed black tea
  4. 1 cup white sugar
  5. 2 cups whiskey
  6. 7 cups water
  7. 1 liter ginger ale soda
  8. 2 lemons – cut into wedges, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large plastic container combine lemonade concentrate, orange juice concentrate, tea, sugar, whiskey and water. Mix well and freeze for 24 hours.
  2. Scoop into a tall glass, 3/4 full, and pour ginger ale to fill the glass. Stir and garnish with lemon wedges.

I had these for the first time at my boss’ Christmas party. They were so yummy. I would tweak the ratios slightly (for my preference). I would up the whiskey to 3-4 cups, add a little more tea flavor, and slightly less sugar.

This reminded so much of the brandy slush my mother liked to make for parties when I was a child. Due to the fact I really don’t care for brandy I loved the whiskey twist in this recipe. While it was a bit sweet for our taste once the ginger ale was added it was still so refreshing.

It’s a constant here…unfortunately. Ha! It is seriously one of the most dangerous beverages I know how to make. I use less water but more black tea. When I serve it, I like to do a little floater on the top for people who don’t like sweet being the first thing they notice. I also don’t use the sugar. Perfect anytime.

Big party hit. I use about 1/4 of the sugar, and heavy pour on the whiskey. If I keep the orange juice I use Sprite – if using limeade instead I go with gingerale.

Substituted frozen can of limeade for the orange juice and cut the sugar down to 1/3 cup. Amazing!

I’ve been making this for years and it’s always requested. the only suggestion I can make is to try it with 50/50 or Squirt, if you can find it. It’s delicious!

This recipe (or many variations of it) has been around for at least 40 years. Great summer cooler which can be made with your choice of booze. There are many flavored syrups available (many with no sugar) so you can flavor it any way you want. Just substitute frozen lineade concentrate for the Orange juice for a more neutral base to suit your booze choice. I agree that the sugar is not needed. Between the juice concentrates and flavored booze and syrup it’s just sugar overload. I want to taste the booze so increase the dosage to satisfy your own desired taste level. I’ve been enjoying this slush for years and I’m sure you will too.
