Ingredients

  1. 4 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 2 cups brown sugar
  3. 1 teaspoon baking powder
  4. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  5. 1 teaspoon salt
  6. ¾ cup vegetable oil
  7. 1 cup milk
  8. 1 tablespoon white sugar, or as needed (Optional)
  9. 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, or as needed (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease three 7- or 8-inch pie pans. 1
  2. Mix flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a bowl. Mix in oil, followed by milk. Spread evenly into the prepared pans. Sprinkle white sugar and cinnamon over each.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center of each cake comes out clean, about 35 minutes.

I scaled this down to 6 servings (1/3 of the recipe) and followed the recipe precisely. Note for others, the batter is very thick, not like a normal cake batter. The taste is alright, but this cake is VERY dry, and you definitely need to have a coffee or tea with it. We will eat it, but it’s not something that I will make again.
