Pizza Rolls

This is merely the foundation of a simple pepperoni pizza roll. With leftover pizza ingredients, I created this. Egg roll wraps were used in place of the dough since I didn’t feel like cooking any.

Prep Time: 20 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 40 mins
Servings: 10
Yield: 20 pizza rolls

Ingredients

  1. 2 quarts canola oil for frying
  2. 1 egg
  3. 3 tablespoons water
  4. 1 (16 ounce) jar pizza sauce
  5. 1 (8 ounce) package sliced pepperoni
  6. 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  7. 1 (14 ounce) package egg roll wrappers

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Whisk egg and water together in a small bowl.
  2. Combine the pizza sauce and pepperoni in a blender or food processor. Process until pepperoni is well chopped and the sauce has thickened. Transfer sauce to a large bowl, and stir in mozzarella.
  3. Lay out one eggroll wrapper on work surface. Place 1 tablespoon filling at the bottom center of the wrapper, leaving 1/2 inch border on each side. Lightly brush the wrapper edges with the egg mixture. Fold over both sides; roll up to encase filling in wrapper. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
  4. Deep fry pizza rolls in batches until crisp and golden brown, 5-9 minutes.
  5. We have determined the nutritional value of oil for frying based on a retention value of 10% after cooking. The exact amount will vary depending on cooking time and temperature, ingredient density, and the specific type of oil used.

Cory – while I have wanted to try this for a while, this was pushed to the top since I had a package of wonton wrappers AND pepperoni I needed to use up. Delicious! Yes, wonton wrappers meant I needed to adjust filling and cook time but the results were wonderful! Added 1/4 minced onion + a small can of chopped black olives. Wish I would have added more cheese but, still loved how they turned out. A fun appetizer, snack or meal! Dipped in both ranch (my personal favorite) and more marinara. A hit! Thanks for sharing this!!

Kids LOVED & said EXACTLY like store bought, only better (to me) because no additives/ preservatives to extend a shelf life! Made half recipe and added 1 T Italian pizza seasoning. Can’t wait to customize with other filings, too! Used wonton wrappers because I had them. Put in freezer til ready to fry, and they fried up quickly! Thanks for this homemade version of a fast food freezer classic!

We loved these. These are great to make just make sure you leave time for wrapping. That part me was hardest for me. Clean up is also a lot.

My husband really liked these. They were good, but a little greasy for my taste.

I didn’t blend the sauce and pepperoni together. I just layered the sauce, then pepperoni and last the cheese then rolled them. They came out great. What do you do when you have 25+ lbs of pepperoni? Try every recipe you can find that includes pepperoni.

They tasted good but my rolls kept puncturing allowing the filling to spill into the fryer and leaving the roll just an empty shell. Any suggestions on how to remedy this would be greatly appreciated.

Great appetizer and or snack, the entire family enjoyed the rolls on the kids high school football night. On college Saturday and NFL Sunday these are primo while waiting on the main course of the day. Used AR’s exquisite pizza sauce recipe, the extra Parmesan Romano in the sauce increased the flavor tremendously.

Yum! I made this for my son’s ninja birthday party and they were a huge hit. I took the lazy way out and just layered the pepperoni, cheese and pizza sauce, rolled and baked.

Great recipe. Easy. We were lazy and just layered the sauce and pepperoni over the cheese, which was a block of mozzarella we cut into sticks. They came our fantastic, a definite keeper.

I think this recipe is more of a concept rather than a recipe. I say this because pizza ingredients vary so much. If you use the perfect ingredients to make these and you know how to wrap an egg roll they will turn out delicious. I looked up this recipe because I was curious to know if you can add pizza ingredients to the inside of an egg roll wrap and the answer is yes. I chopped up pepperoni then stirred the pepperoni, sauce and moz cheese together. Filled the wraps with about a tbsp of mix, then fried them in a pan with about 1/2 inch of oil. They were great. Just dont try to pack a ton of stuff into the wrap. Mine were about an inch thick after rolled.

Great idea for using left over .It takes very less time to prepare and tastes great.

I made a few small ones then I went with whole sheets of the egg roll wrappers. I deep fried them in 350 degree oil for a few minutes on each side and my family and neighbor went crazy for these.

These turned out good. I baked at 400 for about 15 minutes & some of the wrappers probably could have gone longer. I think they would have been even better if I would have fried them as instructed but was in a hurry & not wanting the mess. I made some pepperoni ones and I also made some scrambled eggs with cheese & bacon & did some of those as well. They turned out really good! The possibilities are endless! I plan to get more egg roll wrappers & try a variety of things with them for my kids to snack on this summer! Thanks for a great starter recipe!

This beats the bagged totino’s pizza rolls which have the WORST in it. Thank you for the idea!

What a fun idea! I left out the pizza sauce and used it to dip the pizza rolls in instead. Very easy and will make often!

This came out great!

good! but going to fill with something else next time. The pepperoni is too salty! could be the brand (Hormel). But what a fun recipe, it is a keeper!

These were actually a lot of fun to make. Good family quality time. I used the “easy pizza sauce III” from this site. My oil was way to hot on the first batch so those went into the trash “my fault”. My daughter quickly gobbled up the remaining ones and is asking when I’m making them again.

they were very good but didnt look like they did in the picture but i enjoy making them too there were good

Better than the real thing! Thanks HOTNSPICY for the baking directions. They may turn out better when fried but with the BCS tonight it was nice to make a bunch and toss them into the oven as needed. Hope to make more next time with a variety of toppings.
