I made this in March and it was so good! Served them with mashed potatoes and a veg, the whole family loved it. I doubled the meatball and onion part of the recipe since my meat came in 1# packages, and froze half for later with the instructions attached to make the sauce. Tonight I will serve the half I froze with a long grain and wild rice mix and a salad. Can’t wait for dinner!
Made it and it was delicious. I used Frank Hot Sauce instead of Tabasco sauce. It was a very flavorful sauce. I made it with Garlic/Butter green beans and mashed potatoes. It was delicious. Will definitely be making this again! Would be perfect for a game day, crock pot meal!
Made these last night for a tree trimming party – they were a big hit. Don’t think they needed as much sauce, but still really good.
The sauce is a little watery BUT the taste is superb. I used frozen meatballs which was fine.
Really good. Followed as written except doubled the meatball portion ingredients except the onion (used 1 small) and put in a 13 X 9 dish. Made the sauce portion but increased by 50% (not doubled). Used Franks Red Hot instead of Tabasco. It was so tasty served with white rice and green beans. Easy too.
I like to carmalize my onions.. you can totally add more spice to your liking. Super easy recipe!
I used italian sausage meat and chop meat, seasoned less. It was fantastic, and the sauce was fabulous. I’m hooked
Fantastic, the only thing different with mine was I only had coffee infused maple syrup and that added flavor nite was over the top
I’ve made this 3 times now. First time was exactly as written, with the exception of Tabasco, Louisiana Hot Sauce or Franks Hot Sauce is our go to. The sauce has great flavor but we personally like it a wee bit thicker. Second time, used the exact same ingredients, I changed the process. I mixed the liquids, for the meatball portion, together & let the oats soak around 15 minutes. I grated 1/2 the onion into the meat mixture, added the additional seasonings, then added the soaked oats with remaining liquid. Substantial improvement in the density but still seemed a bit heavy, for our taste. Third try, same ingredients BUT swapped bread crumbs (not panko) for oats. Soaked the bread crumbs in the liquid, proceeded as mentioned in second try, and changed to making the “sauce” in a sauce pan & using grated onion in it as well. Cooked until slightly reduced, approx. 3-5 min, topped the meatballs and baked. RAVE reviews about the texture and incredible sauce flavor. THANK YOU for sharing this with all of us!
Loved it. I went half on the hot sauce and it was perfect for us. we used Franks hot sauce and It had just a little heat to it but the kids still ate it. I accidently put the chopped onions in the meat mixture but it still worked out. The meatballs weren’t as firm possibly because of that but they still held together. I went half on the milk possibly because the onions were added to the meat so it would’ve been to watery if I added the rest. This might be too sweet for some but we enjoyed it.
04/12/23- Keeps getting 5 stars. served with egg noodles and glazed carrots. Should have made extra sauce, and thicken it a little. 02/15/23- Also 5 star. Even Riley ate up everything. Made massed potatoes and green beans with mushrooms. 10/26/22 -Used store bought gluten free meatballs to save time. Everything else as in the recipe. Everyone loved it. Will make it again.
Every condiment my wife hates in one meatball and we both loved them. The sauce was to die for. Made no changes.
We thought this was really good and so I’m rating it a 5 even though next time I’ll make a few changes. I accidentally overcooked my 23 meatballs, so I’ll be more careful to check the temperature next time. I may go to a heaped scoop when measuring them so that they’ll be just a bit bigger. The sauce, which I served over rice, is very tasty! I may want to thicken it just a little next time. Whatever the case, this will be a dish I’ll make many times. Thank you for the recipe, France!
Really good meatballs, but the sauce is outstanding! I served it over mashed potatoes with a side of green beans. Pure comfort food!
This is the most delicious meatball recipe that I have ever made. It was quick and tasty
OMG! The mustard, ketchup totally balanced the syrup. I baked the meatballs at 350 degrees for 12 minutes instead of stove method. I did add cornstarch water mixture last five minutes of baking to thicken sauce. Served over Mashed potatoes. winner for sure.
We made this two nights in a row because the sauce was absolutely addicting! The meatballs were fabulous as well! The second night we had to use stone ground mustard because we didn’t have any yellow mustard left but it was great as well! This is definitely going to be a new staple recipe in this household! The kids loved it too! Thank you!
A little runny so it needs corn starch or something more of a thickener for the gravy part. Otherwise they were good over mashed potatoes!
Quick easy and tasty. Little sweet. But definitely will make this again.
BigRed, I also have a diabetic husband! I actually cheated & bought my meatballs at Sam’s Club! And I use no sugar ketchup, and sugar free Mrs. Buttersworth ! The recipe is a great one but I do have to be careful . Go by taste & you will have a winner taken from this yummy recipe❤️
