Ingredients
- 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- ⅓ cup butter, melted
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ⅔ cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.
- Sift together sifted flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda in a medium bowl. Stir in chopped nuts; set aside.
- Mix brown sugar and melted butter in a large bowl until combined; cool slightly.
- Stir beaten egg and vanilla into brown sugar mixture. Add flour mixture, a little at a time, mixing just until combined. Spread batter into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes.

This was one of the easiest recipes to put together and was well received by my family. I forgot the salt on my first batch but it still turned out great. Trying a little differently this time per family request(different nut) and I’m sure it will be just as good as the first!
I made this yesterday and everyone loved it! So much so, I’m making them again next weekend. I excluded the nuts, mixed the chocolate chips inside the batter, and doubled the recipe. Other than that, I followed the instructions like they were. I would also warn others to grease the pan you’re using. Excellent recipe!

I always double this recipe, it’s so delicious and easy. Don’t skip sifting the dry ingredients, it makes a difference. Thank you for posting this recipe, I have been making it for years and will pass on to my kids.
Let me start by saying I knew going in I was going to be changing this recipe to gluten-free. I have Bob’s Red Mill gluten free flour substitute 1 for 1 and used that. This is for a friend with a wheat allergy. My hubby, who is diabetic, was moaning that he wants some too, and so I will change it again by using half the sugar, and adding in ground flax and wheat germ, and possibly ground quinoa so that he can eat a little and not die on me. They smell wonderful, look great and tomorrow when my friend eats his, I think he will agree they are amazing.
I’m surprised by the amount of high reviews. They’re ok. A little doughy, not very flavorful. They’re more cakey than crumbly – more squishy than gooey. I will probably make them one more time to see if I made any mistakes but if it’s the same result, it’s not worth the bake time.

I watched Glenn and Friends YouTube Channel and saw an episode where he made blondies. I followed your recipe because I love chocolate chips.
Really good and fast! I didn’t have eggs on hand so I used 3 Tbsp of Peanut butter and 1 Tbsp of ground flax/chia seeds (I had for protein shakes) soaked in 3 Tbsp of water. I’d never used these substitutions and probably didn’t need both, but it worked out deliciously — especially if you love the taste of peanut butter! I also reduced the brown sugar to 3/4 c and it was plenty. The second time I made them (in the same week!), I made a 13×9″ pan and increased all ingredients by 2-1/2 to make them a little thicker. I also decided just to mix the chocolate chips into the dough and it worked perfectly. Might reduce the amount of chips to 1/2 c next time. I’m thinking this is a good dough to switch up with other additives depending on what sounds good that day!
Well, its still in the oven, but we rate the dough 9.5/10. Makes a surprisingly small amount of dough, was amount 1/4 inch thick when pressed into a 9×9 pan.
I made it without the chocolate chips, and my grand babies liked it a lot. I like it, it’s not too sweet, very easy recipe.
Used pecans & chocolate chips both mixed in and on top. Delicious!

I enjoyed this! I used less baking powder than listed (half) because people noticed it turned cakey, and I did less vanilla than in the recipe. It takes good (very sweet, so if you do not like sweet things probably go with different recipe). I think it is important to make sure it isnt cooked too little. Underbaked will be too squishy, and I think slightly overdone would be better than undercooked.
I made these two days in a row because they were so good! Be careful on the chocolate chips cause they’re on top and they can be gooey. If you cook it the right amount of time they come out delicious!!
I substituted coconut oil for the butter, and omitted the walnuts. They were delicious! Served with coffee ice cream ..yum!
The biggest problem with this recipe is this: THEY ARE DELISH &MY PARTNER & I FINISHED THEM IN ONE DAY!! They could have lasted longer if I practiced self control, but this recipe is so good I threw caution to the wind! Thank You!
