The manly guy burger, perfect for NFL tailgating (not for wimps).

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 10 mins
Additional Time: 5 mins
Total Time: 25 mins
Servings: 8
Yield: 8 burgers

Ingredients

  1. 5 fresh jalapeno peppers
  2. 4 pounds ground beef
  3. salt and pepper to taste
  4. 1 egg
  5. ¼ cup steak sauce, (e.g. Heinz 57)
  6. ¼ cup minced white onion
  7. 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (e.g. Tabasco™)
  8. 1 pinch dried oregano
  9. 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  10. 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  11. ¼ cup crushed Fritos® corn chips
  12. 8 large potato hamburger buns
  13. 8 slices pepperjack cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat a grill for high heat. When the grill is hot, roast the jalapeno peppers until blackened on all sides. Place in a plastic bag to sweat and loosen the blackened skin. Rub the skin off, then seed if desired, and chop.
  2. In a large bowl, use your hands to mix together the chopped jalapenos, ground beef, salt, pepper, egg, steak sauce, onion, hot pepper sauce, oregano, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt and Fritos®. Divide into 8 balls, and flatten into patties.
  3. Grill patties for 10 to 15 minutes, turning once, or until well done. I always drink one beer, then flip, drink another beer, then remove from the grill and place on buns. Top each one with a slice of pepperjack cheese and pig out!
  4. Please note that the magazine version of this recipe has reduced the chicken broth amount to 1/2 cup.

I haven’t tried this burger yet, but the recipe is inspiring me to turn these into sliders. Press meat mixture onto a sheet pan and bake until 3/4 done. Top with Pepperjack cheese and bake until cheese has melted. Remove from oven and place on slider rolls. Top with your favorite condiment(s) of choice. Salsa Verde would be excellent!

my family loved it!

Great flavor! Very moist and flavorful!

All 4 of us eating these thought they were good. My husband gave them some good smokey flavor from the charcoal grill. I did not change anything this first time except use 3 pounds of meat instead of 4. I don’t think anyone of us thought these were significantly better than other burgers we’ve grilled out though, hence the 4 rating. We’ll likely try them again sometime.

If i could go lower I would. I agree with many others. Tasted like meatloaf, but my meatloaf is much better!

The juiciest most flavorful burger ever!

Hey Jeff, liked your burger. Cooked it in a skillet. I find the burger stays a lot moister cooked that way. A grill tends to dry them out. Thanks for the recipe.

Idk why they tell you to cook it well done in the video ?? please don’t. Great recipe killer burgers well done

These burgers were delicious!!

Followed recipe exactly, except I accidentally left out the hot sauce. Regardless, my three teenage boys and my husband all went CRAZY over these burgers!! I’ve been a vegetarian for over 30 years, but their reactions almost made me want to take a bite 🙂

I used oatmeal instead of fritos

Came out great!!! I replaced the jalapeños with Adobe peppers – rediculous!!

Probably hands down the best burger I have ever eaten. The only thing different was we used only 2 jalapeños but I think when I make this again I’m going to do different jalapeños. Love the flavor but not the heat. But it is sooooo good!!!!

excellent burgers. followed the recipe, burgers were moist and flavorful. the jalapenos were not as hot as i thought they would be. my son and husband loved them, i like things a little spicier so i had a hot sauce-mayo sauce with mine. will definitely make these again. thanks for the recipe.

These burgers were great. We don’t have a grill so cooked them in the iron frypan. Followed the recipe and everyone loved them. Definitely will make these again.

I used very lean ground beef and I think that was a mistake. They were good but next time I will use meat with more fat for moisture.

These tasted really good. They got a little undone but might have been that the size of egg I used wasn’t enough to bind the mixture. This recipe is a keeper. Thanks.
