Just like the bakeries in-store, this quick and simple buttercream is created with margarine and shortening.

Servings: 48
Yield: 4 dozen

Ingredients

  1. 3 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1 cup shortening
  3. ¾ teaspoon baking soda
  4. 2 cups packed brown sugar
  5. 3 eggs
  6. 1 cup chopped walnuts
  7. 1 ½ cups walnut halves

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream the shortening, brown sugar and eggs. Stir in the flour and baking soda. Stir in the walnuts. Drop dough by spoonfuls 2 inches apart on cookie sheets.
  3. Bake 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool on wire racks.

Great recipe! I am new to the baking field, and this was very easy to follow, the cookies came out delicious!

where is the salt in this recipe ? This was bland tasting. I added salt,chopped unsweetened chocolate to the rest of the batch to perk it up and some raisins…omitted the crisco, and did butter, could be a 5 star but not as shown, thanks for the great idea though :0)

Tried these when I was out of chocolate chips, but had plenty of walnuts. Pretty good flavor, like the other reviews said, nothing too amazing, just good. I’m not sure, I might have messed up, as I tried halfing the recipe and used 2 eggs, but mine looked nothing like the picture. Will try again, but don’t know if they will be a fam favorite.

these are sweet and easy. i added a little cocoa powder and some toffee chips too. good warm topped with vanilla ice cream

Name says it all. Perfect simple no-fuss cookie. Good with a cup of tea. I used Pam on the cookie sheets.

Extremely simple–almost foolproof to prepare. The result is your good, basic cookie, nothing fancy, nothing pretentious. I recommend a non-stick cookie sheet, or a little non-stick spray.
