a simple, fast BBQ sauce. Excellent as a dip or for coating poultry or ribs. For glazing, I like to combine it smoothly.

Ingredients

  1. ½ sweet onion, chopped
  2. ½ green bell pepper, coarsely chopped
  3. ¼ cup fresh cilantro
  4. 5 slices pickled jalapeño peppers, or to taste
  5. 6 fresh tomatoes, quartered
  6. 2 teaspoons olive oil
  7. 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
  8. ½ lime, juiced
  9. ⅛ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Place onion, bell pepper, cilantro, and jalapeño peppers into a food processor. Pulse until finely chopped. Add tomatoes; pulse a few times until tomatoes are coarsely chopped. Transfer to a bowl with a tight-fitting lid.
  2. Whisk together olive oil, red wine vinegar, lime juice, and salt in a small bowl until dressing is well combined.
  3. Pour dressing over tomato mixture; stir well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.

I was glad to find this basic recipe. It was great for building my own recipe. I used a fresh jalapeno for spice. I added minced garlic, cumin, paprika, and honey. Additionally, I used the juice of a whole lime. It’s my new go to salsa recipe.

It is delicious! I added some crushed garlic and cumin. I sautéed shrimp seasoned with salt, coarse ground pepper in pan lightly coated with olive oil added salsa until heated finished with salted butter, served over thick creamy cheese grits… superb!

We loved it. I did make a few changes – but probably the most impactful was the use of fresh from the garden tomatoes. Other changes included: used a small red onion, peppers from the garden that had a hint of spice to them, and substituted balsamic vinegar. Made this to add to a Tex Mex Chicken and Beans crockpot – and my husband who is not a salsa fan – said ‘why are you wasting this on your casserole?’

Good recipe for a new gardner! I did have to had 2 tsp of garlic. I have a Ninja food processor so everything got puréed! I wanted a little luck so I added 2 tsp of Wicked Guacamole seasoning made by Red Gourmet Spice Co

This is a great recipe. I made it just as is (except I did not add the peppers) and added a few extras and it was delicious. I added both half a sweet onion and a purple onion, and also jalapeno peppers from a can just to give it a quick kick. I also added fresh garlic and a bit of cumin. I have fresh tomatoes from my garden and they made a great salsa. I definitely recommend this recipe, you can use it as a base recipe and add your touch as I did and you will not be disappointed. I am sharing it with my daughter who also loves salsa! Enjoy!

I was looking for a great salsa recipe for my homegrown tomatoes and peppers, and this is it! Of course, I made some minor changes (taste preferences), but this recipe is exactly what I was looking for. I added less cilantro (I’m not a huge fan), used fresh jalepenos, and I only blended 1/2 the mixture in the food processor instead of all of it because I love the “soupy” consistency of salsa, but I also like the chunks! I wasn’t sure what the vinegar would do, but it tastes delicious! Thank you for sharing your recipe!

OMG! This salsa is so fresh, flavorful and zesty! I did not use jalapeno peppers; and substituted red wine vinegar for apple cider. Also, I added red onion instead of sweet onion. The proportions were just right…..we all know that’s the most important. I will be making this Garden Salsa again. In fact, it will be my go-to from now on.

This is an awesome little salsa! Very mild though so I made a few minor changes. Sorry Valery ; ). I put a whole jalopeno pepper for slightly more heat. It’s still mild but with a bit of a zing. I added a bit more salt, 1/2 tsp of garlic powder, and 1/2 tsp of dried red chilies. I also added 1 rib of celery for extra crunch and 1/2 of a different coloured bell pepper for colour. The finishing touch was 1 5.5 oz can of tomato paste for thickening. try it and enjoy!

I would make this again and again. I’ve tried a few different tomato’s but waiting for those Jersey tomato’s because they are the best. The flavor of this salsa is the best I ever enjoyed with the heat. I do not like heat. So fresh tasting I cannot stop eating it when I start. I made it twice in less than a week and just resupplied for this weekend to make more.

I think this is a great base recipe. I added 3 cloves of crushed garlic and a pinch of rock salt and a splash of red wine vinegar to give it some zest. I also threw in about 1/2 cup feta cheese. Yum yum

Really liked this salsa. It’s a great base to make your own. If anyone has an aversion to cilantro (I ONLY like it in guac or salsa) try adding a sprig or two of thyme leaves and/or parsley to taste. It’s a milder kick than cilantro but does the trick.

This “Garden Tomato Salsa” was very nice. We enjoyed it. The next time I make it I will seed my tomatoes so that they are less juicy (less water in the salsa) and use a yellow pepper instead of a green pepper for contrast with the jalapenos (I used fresh jalapenos). This doesnt taste bad and I used up tomatoes and green peppers ready to turn. To be honest, though, this tasted much more like a gazpacho than what I think of as salsa for some reason. I am using it for a recipe, so I think it should probably be fine.

Used my garden tomatoes diced small with juices squeezed out, use my garden green pepper, used 3 of my garden jalapeños! Very good!

This recipe gave me confidence to experiment with making salsa. Once I used green tomatoes, left out the green pepper, added 1 tsp. garlic and used 2 fresh jalapenos instead of pickled. Yummy!
