Sweet Dinner Rolls

  4.8 – 0 reviews  • Rolls and Buns

This sweet roll recipe can be used to make cinnamon rolls in addition to delicious dinner rolls. Although the rolls are baked in the oven, the dough is mixed in a bread machine. They are delicate, fragrant, and light.

Total Time: 2 hrs
Servings: 16

Ingredients

  1. ½ cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  2. ½ cup warm milk
  3. ⅓ cup butter, softened
  4. 1 large egg
  5. 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  6. ⅓ cup white sugar
  7. 1 teaspoon salt
  8. 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  9. ¼ cup butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Place water, milk, 1/3 cup butter, egg, flour, sugar, salt, and yeast into the pan of a bread machine in the order listed, or follow the order recommended by your manufacturer if different. Select Dough/Knead and First Rise Cycle; press start.
  2. When the cycle finishes, turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide dough in half. Roll each half into a 12-inch circle. Spread 1/4 cup softened butter over entire round. Cut each circle into 8 wedges. Roll wedges starting at the wide end; roll gently but tightly. Place point side down on ungreased cookie sheet. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and put in a warm place to let rise for 1 hour.
  3. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until golden, 10 to 15 minutes.

New at making bread or had a bread machine. Follow instructions from previous review and used bowl instead. The aroma from the yeast mixture was even “ sweet” .Texture was great, flakey and easy to prep. Hubby loved them for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Was definitely save this recipe in my faves!

These are the best dinner rolls I’ve ever made. I don’t have a bread machine, so I followed the instructions provided by a reviewer. These are light, slightly sweet, and very tender. The only issue I have is that you want to eat more than you should.

Absolutely top notch!!! I made these for Christmas dinner (shaped into balls, not crescents) and everyone just loved them!!! I haven’t tried them as cinnamon buns but we used them for burger buns and they were amazing. I’m sure hotdog buns would be just as asesome! This recipe will be added to my “Tried and True” collection! Thank you so much for sharing!!!!!

These are the go-to rolls for any holiday occasion. Absolutely everyone loves these rolls, and I have to make multiple batches so there is enough to take home.

My family and friends loved these. I also put cinnamon and sugar on some.

Oh My gosh…. I have experimented and tried so hard to find the perfect sweet roll recipe and I finally did. I doubled the recipe, emitted 1 egg, and added a little sugar because I like them sweet, like golden corrals rolls. I made half into crescent rolls to go with dinner and the other half of the dough is still developing in the fridge for sausage rolls for Friday morning. They were absolutely incredible. I FINALLY found the perfect recipe. Here in Texas we have kolaches at the donut shops/Chinese sausage rolls and I could never find a duplicate recipe for those till now. So fluffy, so luxurious in texture and flavor, so so good!! The longer you let the dough go in the fridge the better. I also kneaded these by hand. Thanks for the recipe girl!!!!!!! Ugh!!! 😀

The first time I tried this recipe it came out great beyond my expectation. I was so good we took half of it to share with in-laws on a Summer visit. I am trying it again today but with a mix of Walnut and raisins, and baking it as a loaf to see how it comes out. You will here from me shortly.

These came out oh my goodness oh so good..mine were huge!! Like mini loaves of bread but that didn’t matter to us ..they were so lite and fluffy..followed recipe to a tee except i put my oven on 350 and baked for 15 min.. I highly recommend..maybe I can turn this recipe into two full loves of bread..hmmmm..something for me to explore for sure!! Thank you for this recipe. I will be using it from now on..

Family loves these buns, I find if I don’t add butter on top not so crumbly more of a softer top. Also when my granddaughter is over she cant have dairy and this tastes great with coconut or almond milk instead.

I have made this recipe twice (double batch each time) and each time it was a standout success. Even as part of a huge table full of delicious food, everybody singled out and praised these dinner rolls.

I don’t have a bread machine but was able to adapt this recipe using traditional roll making technique and these rolls were a hit. My adapted version will be my go to from now on for holiday dinners.

Super love this recipe! I finally found a dinner roll that turned out so tasty and soft. I’m so elated with the finished product. I will definitely make this over and over again. Although I made a few adjustments: kneaded the dough manually using an electric mixer (never got a good dough from my bread machine), used 1 cup of milk (instead of half milk & half water), cut back on my flour (just used 3 cups), and baked at 375F (instead of 400F). 15 minutes baking time was just perfect for me. Again, allow me to say that this is one awesome recipe. Thanks for sharing.

I didn’t have a bread machine, so I followed the directions on the top rated review. I baked it at 375 for 12 minutes though. I could have maybe gone 15 minutes to make them a bit more golden, but they turned out well. Pretty easy to make.

This is an excellent recipe for a rolls but also as bread. I followed the recipe with the exception substituted 3/4 cup all purpose flour with wheat bread flour. I used breadmaker and then rolled out into a 12 x 8 rectangle, brushed with butter and then topped with cinnamon and sugar mix. I let rise until double in size and baked in oven. I then used the next day for french toast using eggs a little milk, vanilla and maple extract. Best french toast I ever tasted!

I don’t have a bread machine and it works equally well. I allowed it to rise 2 times and knead a bit manually between the 2 rises. I just made it into dinner rolls and skipped the 1/4 cup of butter. Works beautifully. Thanks for the recipes.

Loved this recipe.. made it to go worth Turkey soup and it was such a hit I had to make more a day later. After I put the melted butter on I sprinkled sugar on top. It was quite tasty.
