I LOVE this recipe. I have been making it for a couple years now, year round. I’m addicted to it, my friends and neighbors always love it too when I give them some!
Changes I made….extra chili powder, added s&p, added some garlic powder and onion powder…. Measured the main ingredients in the recipe but, just added the extras with a pinch here and there..just tasting as I go. Instead of a full can of green chilis, I did a can of the diced tomatoes with chilis. This chili is more of a hot dish with it being so think so, I added a small can of spicy V8 and about a 1/2c of water. I cooked all mine on the stovetop, no need to use a Crock-Pot for this one.
We love this recipe with alterations. We make as directed but add diced orange, yellow, and red peppers. We season the meat with salt, pepper, and chili powder while browning. We also add more seasoning to the crock pot (probably double chili powder, 2 tablespoons cumin, generous onion and garlic powder). It’s a family favorite!
This is the second time I’ve made this recipe. I followed the recipe exactly the first time I made it. It’s an excellent easy chili. This time I replaced the kidney beans with an additional can of pinto/chili beans. I personally do not care for the kidney bean texture in chili. So I guess it’s a two bean chili. I increased the chili powder and cumin for my taste. I also added a partial green pepper this time that needed to get used. I prefer the stovetop method, using my cast iron dutch oven, low simmer for a few hours.
It’s pretty tasty. Definitely will make again.
There was absolutely no reason to cook all of that for 4 hours. All the ingredients are cooked, except the turkey. After I cooked the meat I put everything in a big pot and put it on low for 20 min on a slow simmer. ***if it gets too watery add some flour to thicken it up but make sure to do very little at a time.
Recipe was great, but I added a few changes to it. Bacon, garlic and fresh poblano Chile . It ended amazingly delicious!
We enjoyed this. I didn’t cook it in my slow cooker. I only feel like that is necessary if I am using dry beans, so since it was canned beans it cooks just fine on the stove.
I had requests for this recipe after the party; it was a big hit!
This is a great base recipe for ‘quick (relatively speaking) and dirty’ chili. I season the turkey when its browning with salt pepper and italian seasoning. I also added a small can of paste, a can of Rotel Tomato & Green Chili. I use caramelized red onions (butter, s&p, sugar) as I feel they taste better and add color.
I have made many versions of Chili, but this one is by far the best one ever! I used Saracha sauce, because I didn’t have green chili’s, which I will be using for the next batch.
This recipe creates a flavorful chili and it worked well with my slow cooker.
Another wholesome batch meal to freeze for later. I have always ended up substituting something , but the bones of the recipe never disappoint. It easily adapts in a slow cooker or pressure cooker as well. It’s interesting how simply adding three different beans can improve texture and appearance ! I’ve lost count how many times I’ve made this.
I also added a can of corn!!!! Absolutely delicious!!
Great recipe. I ended up swapping half the chili powder for chipotle powder, and adding a teaspoon of garlic salt and it turned out delicious. We’re still enjoying the leftovers 2 days later
very very bland. it needs paprika garlic powder and .5-1 tsp of salt as well as more cumin. 3tsp cumin 1tsp garlic powder 2 tsp paprika
Pretty easy recipe for a delicious meal after a long day! I added some cayenne pepper because I’m spicy and it was delicious! I used lean ground beef instead of turkey and the flavors went really well together. I will definitely make this again.
Definitely was a great base for a chili, a bit blander than anticipated, a little more heat and a bit of salt would’ve done it well
this is the best chili recipe I have ever made. not sure if it was because of the tomato sauce but it was so thick and creamy. i added 1 and a half jalapeños instead of the green chilis and added a few more spices but it was very good!
It was good, but I think I will substitute beef for Turkey next time
I don’t think it’s to the point where it will make someone addicted to it and devour it like half a bag of ranch Doritos would, but it’s not bad. I made this recipe with Lightlife sausage because of my vegetarian girlfriend and it was pretty good. We ended up getting 9 cups out of it, which everything added together ended up being 237.22 calories per cup which is awesome. for leftovers, I got a beef hotdog and poured some of this on top and sprinkled with cheese to make an awesome chili cheese dog. Perhaps some different seasonings would turn this into Doritos level good, keep trying and let me know.
