A fruity, tart snack that will keep you cool in the summer is this mango cherry smoothie.

Prep Time: 20 mins
Cook Time: 30 mins
Total Time: 50 mins
Servings: 50
Yield: 50 bites

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup rolled oats
  2. 1 cup all-purpose flour
  3. ½ pound chicken livers, rinsed and trimmed
  4. 2 large eggs
  5. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, or more as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish and line it with parchment paper.
  2. Add oats to the bowl of a food processor; pulse until finely chopped, 10 to 15 seconds. Transfer oats to a large bowl and mix in flour.
  3. Place livers in the food processor and process until smooth, 10 to 15 seconds. Add eggs and blend until well combined, about 10 seconds. Add oil and process until incorporated.
  4. Add liver mixture to oat and flour mixture; stir until well blended. Spoon into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until firm to the touch but not hard and crispy, 30 to 40 minutes.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool completely before cutting into 50 pieces.
  7. You can use beef liver instead of chicken liver.
  8. If you don’t have a food processor, you can use a blender or liquidizer. If you don’t have any of those, finely chop the oats and liver on a cutting board before using.

I’ve made this a few times now and our 3 dogs love it. As it’s written out (in my opinion) it’s too dry. I had a hard time spreading it out into the pan. To that end I doubled the vegetable oil. Usually I add half a 15oz can of canned pureed pumpkin and sometimes a few dried cranberries. The cranberries didn’t go over that well we noticed so we stopped adding those but they love the pumpkin. I’m going to try to puree some frozen veggies and add those next time I make this. Oh I also take some Nuvet Plus vitamin wafers and NuJoint Plus wafers and grind them up and add them. Maybe 7 vitamin wafers and 10 of the NuJoint wafers. At any rate our 3 cattle dogs love these liver treats. I switch between chicken livers and beef liver. The chicken livers are easier to grind up but the dogs seem to like the beef liver treats a little better. Anyway we love these around here!!

Because the chicken liver container size was 20 oz, I doubled + a bit the oats and used 2C of whole wheat flour. It’s new, so it took our 11 yr old a bit to warm up to the smell, but now she loves them and expects more. Thank you so much for sharing this.

I have two very very picky pups, a Shih Tzu and a Pug. They both absolutely loved these treats. My little Pug worked herself up into a howling frenzy waiting for them to cool. She devoured them. The Shih Tzu gave them a tentative sniff and then happily ate three of them. Total success and I highly recommend this recipe.

Used chicken liver and whole wheat flour instead of AP. House smelled disgusting while they were baking but they’re a huge hit with my dog!! This was my first time ever cooking treats at home. She drooled the entire time they were cooling. We don’t feed treats often, so I threw most of them in a Ziploc and put them in the freezer. 10/10 will definitely be making these regularly!!

We used coconut flour as it is easier on dogs digestive track vs regular flour..They LOVE them. We vacuum sealed them for better freshness.

My dog loved these, cried whilst they were cooling.i baked them for 30 minutes. Then sliced & diced them up & baked for a further 15 minutes to make them crunchier. Better then store bought. Saving a lot of money & know exactly what’s in them

My dog (and all the dogs in the neighborhood) LOVE these! I make a double batch using beef liver. I spread them on a cookie sheet to bake, then cut them with a pizza cutter. (Not sure why recipe calls for greasing pan and then using parchment. I just use parchment and they come out fine.) I keep them in the freezer, and just pull out about 3 days worth at a time.

Awesome recipe! My dog loves it! I find they are still too wet after baking and I don’t want them going bad. So I when I cut them into bite sized pieces, I bake them again for ten minutes until they are nice and crunchy.

Made according to recipe. My dog would not touch these.
