Ingredients

  1. 2 ½ cups self-rising flour
  2. ½ cup all-purpose flour
  3. ¼ cup brown sugar
  4. 1 teaspoon baking powder
  5. ½ teaspoon salt
  6. ½ teaspoon onion powder
  7. ¾ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  8. 1 (12 fluid ounce) can beer
  9. ¼ cup butter or margarine, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9×5-inch baking pan.
  2. Mix together self-rising flour, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, onion powder, and Italian seasoning in a bowl. Pour in beer; mix just until moistened. Transfer to the prepared pan. Top with melted butter.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 45 to 55 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

I did all self rising flour. White sugar cause it’s what I had. Didn’t add salt or baking powder. Added powdered garlic. Used Budweiser. Absolutely delicious!

Easy to make I added a little garlic powder and a splash more of beer it was a big hit. Also before I poured the butter over I took a knife and made a line in the middle.

Thank you so much for this recipe. I changed it up a bit as suggested by many of the reviewers. All I put into the recipe was 3 cups of self rising flour, 1/3 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of butter and Bud light with hops, barley, water and rice. I wanted sweet, not savory and it came out delicious. I used a springform pan and the butter leaked out and made a mess in my oven. Thank goodness for self cleaning ovens.

I have been making this recipe since 2012. Made it for a dinner party last night, and people continually ask me for the recipe. I usually add a little minced garlic to it, for the garlicy bread flavor–especially with lasagna. It’s fantastic as is or with minor modification in seasonings!

One of my favorite quick bread recipes to make. It’s always a hit at bake sales too. I make it as written. I love the flexibility of this recipe though. Sometimes I add 1/2 tsp of garlic powder in addition to the herbs or I’ll swap Italian herbs for Old Bay. I also sprinkle TJ’s “Everything But the Bagel” on top for a little something extra. So tasty!!

Delicious. I make self-rising flour out of AP and whole wheat flour following the directions on King Arthur Flour website. I used half whole wheat flour for the 2 1/2 cups of self rising flour and the other half AP flour. I used Kona Longboard beer. So good!

Very good and very easy. I accidentally poured the butter into the batter the first time I made it and it was so good. The next time I made it as instructed and the bread was very dry. I’ll keep mixing the melted butter into the batter. I also omit the Italian seasoning but I’ve made it with and really didn’t notice a difference.

I am a private chef and I made this one evening to rave reviews. Just one note, it is very hard to slice, the top is very crumbly and crusty, hard to slice neatly. Next time I will make it as muffins.
