I suggest NOT mashing the beans… I made this in the crockpot & followed the directions to a tee… came out like chili soup
Over spicy under salted, reduce chili powder to 1.5 tablespoons and salt way more as you go to taste. Also remove the turkey after a quick 5 minutes brown (doesn’t need to be fully cooked, it will finish while it stews) and re-add it with the tomatoes. Onions should be cooked to translucent, then add garlic until fragrent then add back turkey and other ingredients. This will keep your turkey from getting dry.
I used butter instead of olive oil. Also chicken broth adds a little more flavor. Was delicious!
Made this last night for my family of 5. We all THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. I’ll definitely make it again. Although, I am “that person” that adds things as I go and changes things up a tiny bit here and there, but it was a good base recipe for me to go off of. I used chicken broth AND water instead of just water. I added another can of kidney beans bc we love beans. I didnt smash the beans bc i forgot ;). I added extra chili powder bc i wanted a stronger, deeper flavor. And I also added more salt since i added the extra beans. I served it with baked potatoes. mmmm.
Changes from recipe: added half a bell pepper at onion stage. Used light red kidney beans (forgot to mash). Added 1 T brown sugar once the liquids were added, plus 1 t of worstershire sauce and 2 t soy sauce toward the end to deepen the flavor. Good on day one, outstanding as leftovers after the flavors combined.
FAMILY FAVORITE!! I add another can of Kidney beans (drain and rinse) and Chili beans (don’t drain or rinse). NO NEED TO MASH I don’t like spicy food so I only add 1/2 tsp of chili powder and cayenne powder. I also add a dollop of sour cream and sprinkle cheddar cheese, I also threw in some Frito lay corn chips.
My family and friends loved this. Instead of water I used low sodium chicken broth and I added an extra onion. I forgot to mash the beans but it still came out delicious.
I loved this turkey chili! It’s easy and delicious and healthy. I didn’t mash the beans, and I added an additional can of beans, and it was awesome.
Amazing and easy to put together
I just made this for the first time. I added chopped red bell pepper, a can of black beans along with the kidney beans (not smashed) and chicken broth instead of water. Delicious. Just spicy enough. A tweak away from “ perfect”
My go to in the winter. Easy to double the recipe for next day lunch! Yummy!
No flavor. Very soupy. I could not choke it down.
Quick and easy. I followed the recipe exactly as it’s written. Made enough for my family of 6. My partner, who is picky, loved it as well as the kids.
Basic recipe can’t go wrong. Used black beans and rinsed. Onions first then garlic then add turkey!
I’m making this right now. I used chicken broth instead of water and used black beans. Something is missing from this recipe, I keep adding more like onion powder, garlic powder…but it still falls flat. Not sure what to do to bring it to life.
Very easy to make. Enjoyed the taste, but so use to beef being in my Chili, so tasted a little odd at first, but I am using ground Turkey much more now for all my cooking. Strongly suggest this for anyone looking for an easy to make satisfying chili.
I have been making this recipe for a few years now. The whole family loves it and it is easy to make!
Had no cumin, how do use caraway seeds that I somehow had… Luckily, also had a mortar and pestle.
I’ve been making this recipe for a few years now..it’s fantastic..I don’t like cumin so I skip that and add lots of veggies..diced tomato, bell peppers, white onions. Absolutely delicious
I was worried as it didn’t call for tomato paste. Yet, none needed! Follow this recipe exactly as it says and you’re golden! I added extra spices such as harissa (buy some, it’s not very spicy) and others. Turned out great!
Delicious
