Orange Spice Cookies

The holidays are the ideal time to serve these orange spice biscuits. Although they appear unassuming, as soon as you bite into them, incredible flavors begin to emerge. After these, you won’t want to eat anything so you can preserve the flavor in your tongue. That is how excellent they are. See if you can do it for yourself.

Ingredients

  1. 1 ¼ cups dark brown sugar
  2. ½ cup white sugar
  3. ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  4. 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  5. 2 tablespoons cream cheese
  6. 1 large egg
  7. 1 tablespoon molasses
  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  9. 1 teaspoon orange extract
  10. ½ teaspoon maple extract (Optional)
  11. 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  12. 6 tablespoons grated orange zest, or to taste
  13. 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  14. 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  15. 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  16. ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  17. ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Beat both sugars, 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter, and cream cheese together until creamy, at least 5 minutes. Add egg and mix well. Mix in molasses. Mix in vanilla, orange, and maple extracts.
  3. Stir flour, orange zest, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, cloves, and nutmeg together in another bowl until well combined and no clumps of zest remain. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir together just until incorporated; don’t overmix.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of dough 2 inches apart onto the prepared baking sheets.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until edges are golden, about 12 minutes. Cool on the baking sheet briefly before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. I used the zest of 6 oranges for this recipe.
