Butterscotch Oatmeal

On the anniversary of my conversion to veganism, I conducted this experiment for myself, and it was a great success. Chocolatey and quite moist! Alternate non-dairy milks are welcome.

I only didn’t give it 5 because I like many halved the sugar and it tasted just right. Wouldve been offensively sweet with the sugar recommended hah, and I have a sweet tooth. I wonder if this recipe could be made savoury with the exclusion of sugar…

This is such a great recipe to start with! The variations are only limited to your creativity!! For a GF, DF healthier version I used water (sometimes coconut or almond milk) and only 1/4 cup of coconut brown sugar. I added cinnamon, raisins, pecans and hemp seeds. Then instead of butter I added an sooonful of organic coconut oil. DELICIOUS! When adding sweet fruit (dates, raisins, bananas) you can omit the sugar completely (or add a touch of stevia) and still have a delicious sweetness to your oatmeal.

My mom made this for us when we were kids and I always loved it. Now my kids and my husband love it too! I made it non-dairy and sugar free with half the brown sugar. Delicious. Definitely a winter treasure. Thanks for sharing this.

I loved it! The flavor really surprised me!

It’s easy, comforting, filling but way too sweet like dessert. I’ll make it again but with half the brown sugar. And I love sugar! Cinnamon would add to it as well.

I am definitely a fan of this oatmeal! Followed recipe exactly. Personally I did not think it was too sweet and I really like the consistency of all the ingredients. I was able to split into 2 servings for the next day and it was still great!

This is the best oatmeal!!

Delicious! We are 5 so I doubled the recipe. The adjusted calculation told me to use 1/3 cup of milk, so beware if you adjust the servings. I started with the 1/3 cup and realized it made no sense. So I kept adding milk until it seemed right to me. I don’t like super sweet oatmeal so upon the advice of others, I also cut the brown sugar by half. Same with the butter to watch the cholesterol. Regardless my kids loved it.

its a really good recipe but offensively too much sugar.

Bice sweet and hearty oatmeal. Nice change of pace from traditional oatmeal.

I love oatmeal. My dad made it for us as kids all the time. Based on the reviews, I thought this might be a new twist on a simple breakfast and be really good. I didn’t like it at all. It’s also less healthy, so…

This recipe is a gem. I started making it 6 yrs ago when the Littles were in pre-school. After reading The 3 bears they wanted porridge. While I made it as oatmeal, they asked is this porridge? So it has been named porridge ever since. I have tried many of the suggestions over this time but our favorite is the original recipe with half the sugar. Sometimes a drop of vanilla. I do suggest stirring while it’s heating to keep the eggs from scrambling, otherwise, I will keep serving this porridge to all that visit.

This was one of the first recipes I made from allrecipes! I’m only now reviewing recipes and had to stop and give kudos to this dandy! Absolutely delicious! Thank you for a recipe I’ve enjoyed for years and will continue to enjoy for many more!

Very bland. Can’t quite figure out what is needed to add to it.

This was really really good! Didn’t need anything else in it. Makes a good 3 servings. Love it. Thanks for the recipe!

It is really good, I voided egg and used cashew milk and country crock spread since I can’t have eggs or dairy.

Unfortunately, I made this with cashew milk because that’s all I had and the oats didn’t set up properly, as they would have with regular milk. It was a little loose (and greasy looking to be honest, due to the cashew milk) but it was still delicious. I will absolutely make this again, next time with regular milk. If you’re not a fan of sweet oatmeal, I recommend reducing the amount of sugar. I like my oatmeal sweet and usually have to pile brown sugar or maple sugar on top, but not with this recipe.

Sooooo delicious!!! Rich and just the right amount of sweet!

Added raisins, dates, flaxseed, and coconut shreds. Reduced the sugar by half as advised.

Amazing how just a little adjustments in the incrediants, changes the flavor. This is one of them, delicious!
