This Seven-Up pound cake is a simple, homemade delicacy that’s been given life by soda.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 15 mins
Additional Time: 30 mins
Total Time: 55 mins
Servings: 4
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 large russet potato, peeled
  2. cooking spray
  3. 1 teaspoon smoked Cheddar salt (such as Bitterman)

Instructions

  1. Set a mandoline on the thinnest level and carefully cut potato into thin slices.
  2. Add sliced potatoes to a bowl of water and soak for 15 minutes. Pour out water, cover potatoes with fresh water, and soak for an additional 15 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 10 minutes. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  4. Remove potatoes from the water and dry thoroughly. Sprinkle with smoked Cheddar salt and transfer to the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd it. Spray the potatoes with cooking spray.
  5. Air fry potatoes for 8 minutes. Open air fryer and shake potatoes. Cook until potatoes are golden brown, about 7 minutes more. Check to make sure they are not cooking faster and starting to burn.
  6. I find this works best if chip sizes are similar.

Amazingly good. I tossed them in olive oil and Natural Himalayan Pink salt. In my air fryer, it took a long time to crisp up. I had to check frequently so they wouldn’t burn. Would not make them again for the time factor. But were delicious. Thank you.

Thank you for advice about soaking the chips in ice water, it made all the difference! My son and I both loved them.

It’s good. But I don’t have that slicer so I sliced as thin as I could. Witch was good, but the potato had to much water in it. Chips came out ok , just not quite right. Defiantly going to keep working on this!

I think for my machine, which is small, the potatoes needed to be thicker. I can hear the chips flying around in the fryer. When I opened the fryer, the chips were folded and on top of each other. I’m hoping they’ll be better when they’re thicker. Very time consuming, but I’ll try one more time.

This was a tasty snack! I used a hibiscus-chile salt I brought back from Mexico. The air fryer does a nice job of crisping up the chips if you follow the recipe’s guidance on slicing thinly and drying well. Just watch the timing. I found closer to 10 minutes was better for the machine I was using. I might not make them again just because it took about 8 batches to do 1 potato, but if I get a bigger machine, I would be able to fit in more in each batch!
