Slow Cooker Pork Cacciatore

  4.4 – 218 reviews  • Italian

After I remarked on how great the neighborhood smelled when she made it with her windows open, a wonderful Italian neighbor came over and demonstrated how to make the dish. The dish made “hunter-style” with mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, other herbs, and occasionally wine is referred to by this American-Italian name. I discovered that adding cheese gave it a unique quality and also made it mine.

Total Time: 8 hrs 45 mins

  1. 2 tablespoons olive oil
  2. 1 onion, sliced
  3. 4 boneless pork chops
  4. 1 (28 ounce) jar pasta sauce
  5. 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  6. 1 green bell pepper, seeded and sliced into strips
  7. 1 (8 ounce) package fresh mushrooms, sliced
  8. 2 large cloves garlic, minced
  9. 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  10. ½ teaspoon dried basil
  11. ½ cup dry white wine
  12. 4 slices mozzarella cheese

Very good. I’m going to try it with chicken

This recipe is terrific! I made it as it was posted and the flavors are outstanding. At the last hour and fifteen minutes of cooking I added uncooked spaghetti noodles. The spaghetti cooked up perfectly in the sauce. This recipe is so easy so don’t pass it up!

Just love this recipe. So easy and so delicious. Have made it a couple of times and this time I used my husband’s fra diablo sauce instead of ready made store bought and it gave it a nice kick. I like mixing all the ingredients into the crock pot and adding the pork chops after so that they are surrounded by the sauce. The pork literally just fell apart with a fork and was so moist. A definite winner.

It lacked flavor-the pork was tender but I needed to add a lot of Parmesan cheese to make it tastier. Maybe draining tomatoes would help and adding spices/herbs during cooking process. Won’t make this particular recipe again.

Great base flavors, we put it over basmati rice. We are going to try using country style ribs next time instead of pork chops, I think a darker meat would be better.

Will make it again. Husband made it!

This is kind of weird but we liked the Cacciatore but the pork just didn’t cut it. I bought All-Natural pork chops that are not in a brine solution. The meat was stringy, really unappealing. However, the leftover Cacciatore sauce got used with other things. I’ll go back to chicken.

Fantastic, the only thing I changed was the cheese,I thought I had mozzarella, but it was provolone.great dish, very tasty.will definitely make this again.

My husband said it was the best Italian meal he’s ever had. Shocked me cauz he’s a fussy eater. Seriously though, it was an excellent-tasting meal and really easy. Definitely a keeper. I give it 5 stars.

I happened to have a small pork roast, so I used that instead of chops. The only other change that I made was to omit the green pepper due to the diet restriction of a family member. My Sicilian Grandmother would have made this recipe again and again, so will I!

Made this last night. Read other reviews so used 1/2 the pasta sauce and 1/2 the tomatoes. Had to omit the onion & garlic due to my current dietary restrictions so increased the other seasonings a bit. Still ended up with 3 generous meals for the two of us.

This was delicious! I served over polenta to which I add a bunch of cheese. I used mixed peppers – red and green – and more garlic. I really recommend this dish.

Wow, this was awesome.

I made it just as the recipe stated and we loved it! I certainly will make it again!

Made this recipe with a frozen pork roast and threw all ingredients as directed in recipe into crockpot and cooked for 10 hours on low. Turned out fantastic!!

I looked at the reviews and floured and browned the pork chops. I added sun-dried tomato’s but otherwise made it as listed. Easy Peasy company dinner. I served it with a side of linguine. Made another side of green beans plus garlic bread. I sat back and took in the compliments

Made it exactly as it was written and it had a LOT of flavor. I found that because it’s in the slow cooker, like all other recipes with onions and mushrooms, it’s a good idea to add more, they seem to disappear! It made a lot of sauce, and I froze a container for a quick dinner. The meat falls apart, so it was impossible to top it with cheese. A wonderful recipe you can make ahead of time when having company over. I served it with linguine.

Great recipe! I made it even healthier, more delicious and much easier to prepare by using 12 oz. trimmed pork tenderloin (cut into large pieces) instead of the chops. No need to sauté anything or top with. Just place tenderloin pieces into crock pot, add all prepared vegetables on top. Into a bowl or large measuring cup, mix only 14 oz. each of the pasta sauce and tomatoes (undrained) and wine, then add seasonings to taste (less than listed). Pour this mixture on top of the pork and vegetables. Poke a knife into the whole mix in a few places to make sure that some of the liquid will funnel down into the vegetables and pork. Cook as directed for 8 hours. Cooked this way, the pork tenderloin comes out extremely tender and the vegetables are soft but not overcooked. Enjoy!

Very good! Made in the morning and then placed in crock pot to enjoy for dinner after work. Omitted white wine, because I did not have it. Great for when you’re tired of making pork chops or pasta the same old way- will make again!

I followed the recipe exactly and it was yummy but could have used more spice. The pork chops fell apart, which I loved, but the sauce was a little bland.
