By adding a variety of toppings to the already suggested ones, such as black beans, chopped tomato, diced avocado, sliced green onion, and spicy sauce, you can make a custom fajita bar for your family using this delicious basic dish.

Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

  1. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  2. 2 onions, sliced
  3. 2 sweet peppers, sliced
  4. ½ teaspoon salt
  5. ½ teaspoon pepper
  6. 1 pound ground turkey
  7. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  8. 2 teaspoons chili powder
  9. 1 ½ cups Heinz® Chili Sauce, Chunky with Sweet Peppers
  10. 2 tablespoons Heinz Tomato Ketchup
  11. 2 (10 inch) flour tortillas
  12. 1 ½ cups shredded old Cheddar cheese
  13. 2 cups shredded lettuce
  14. ⅔ cup low-fat sour cream

Instructions

  1. Heat half the oil over medium-high heat. Add onions, peppers and half of the salt and pepper. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until tender. Reserve.
  2. Add remaining oil to pan. Crumble in turkey, add garlic, chili powder and remaining salt and pepper. Saute until brown, about 5 minutes. Stir in half the chili sauce and all of the ketchup. Bring to a simmer.
  3. Serve meat and vegetable mixtures with tortillas and bowls of remaining chili sauce, cheese, lettuce and sour cream to make your own fajitas.
  4. Twist 1: For meat variations, use ground chicken or lean ground beef instead of the turkey.
  5. Twist 2: For a leftover solution, use leftover cooked chicken or beef for the ground turkey.
  6. Twist 3: For warm restaurant-style tortillas, wrap the tortillas first in a clean damp tea towel, then in foil and warm in a 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) oven for about 5 minutes.
  7. Twist 4: For spicier fajitas, use hot pepper sauce to taste.

Easy and delicious!

Not exactly like fajitas, more like a mix of fajitas and soft tacos. I did add a little more spices than what was called for (cumin, coriander, onion powder, garlic powder) but other than that, I did my best to stick to the recipe. This was enough to feed four (two grownups, two kids) when paired with mexican rice and refried beans. NO leftovers.

I liked it was easy to make and it turned out delicious. I didn’t include the chili powder but the end result was yummy.

Was not sure since it was new and not that popular. However once we took a bite I was well satisfied. I ended up mixing the pepper and onion mixture in with the sauce and meat to simmer for 5 minutes and then served. This one is on my list. Thanks Heinz!
