Servings: 36
Yield: 36 bars

Ingredients

  1. cooking spray
  2. ⅔ cup white sugar
  3. ½ cup butter, softened
  4. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
  5. 1 pinch salt
  6. 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  7. ⅔ cup packed brown sugar
  8. ½ cup light corn syrup
  9. 3 eggs
  10. ¼ teaspoon salt
  11. 1 cup chopped pecans
  12. ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Beat white sugar, butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and pinch of salt together in a bowl until smooth; add flour and stir until dough forms. Press dough into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until edges are lightly brown, 15 to 17 minutes. Cool crust completely.
  4. Whisk brown sugar, corn syrup, eggs, remaining vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon salt together in a bowl; add pecans and stir to combine. Pour brown sugar mixture over cooled crust.
  5. Bake in the oven until golden brown and filling is set, 25 to 30 minutes. Cool to room temperature; cut into 36 bars. Place bars in refrigerator until cold, about 1 hour.
  6. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring after each melting, for 1 to 3 minutes (depending on your microwave). Set cold bars on waxed paper and drizzle melted chocolate over the top.
  7. Cook’s Note:
  8. As an alternative to drizzling bars with chocolate, you can dip each bar into chocolate and cool on waxed paper.

This was a big hit. Will make again

These pecan bars are delicious with or without the chocolate. They are even better the next day when stored in an airtight container. I made the recipe exactly as written and they turned out great. I did line the pan with aluminum foil sprayed with Pam for easier removal. My family loved them and I will definitely make them again.

These are good. Not like a “turtle” but rather a pecan pie bar with chocolate on top. In my opinion, it’s better without the chocolate, which makes it very sweet. Also, it was more time consuming than I anticipated. The author did say 2:30 hours, which I didn’t notice. The time isn’t in prep, it’s the baking and cool down periods. Will make again, without the chocolate topping!

It was decent. Made as written and was not pleased. Simple to make, but I won’t make again.

These are absolutely delicious! I followed the advice of other reviewers and used an 8 x 11″ dish. They turned out perfect and were the first thing to disappear off the desert table during our neighborhood potluck dinner. I will definately be adding them to my Christmas cookie trays!

I have made these twice in the last two weeks because everyone loved them so much and they are so easy to make. I also used an 8×11 pan so they would be thicker, I just had to add extra baking time to the crust and the filling. The crust dough seems very dry and crumbly, but it presses perfectly into the pan. Also, I use mini chocolate chips (a heaping half cup) and put them in a ziploc bag and place in a bowl of very hot tap water for some time to melt them and then just make a very small cut in the corner of the bag to drizzle. I can’t believe this recipe does not have more reviews.

I took a chance on this recipe. So glad I did. Everyone went for seconds.

Sooo good! I did need to cook the crust a lot longer than 15 mins…but otherwise so delicious!

Someone suggested doing the recipe by 1.5 because they were too thin. I used an 8×11 pan and it was perfect. I do think 9×13 would make them very thin. I drizzled with caramel and chocolate. They were fabulous

Followed the recipe according to ingredients ans cooking instructions. The only change I made was spreading the chocolate over the top rather than drizzling.

Made these exactly as written and they turned out perfectly. I’ll keep this recipe handy as everyone loved them.

Really great recipe. Very yummy. The only thing I think the filling needed was a pinch more salt and since they were very thin, I would personally prefer to make 1.5x the filling ingredients next time.

The first time I made these I didn’t have Choclate Chips… But I made them anywy… They were fabulous… I took them to work and they were gone in minutes… The second time I made them (because the office requested them again)I made sure that I had the chocolate to drizzle on… and they were SPECTAULAR! They went in seconds… These were easy to make and fun to do… You have to try these…
