Good however 2 T of butter would have made a better loaf and an idiot below thought that 2 C of flower was 1 1 1/2# which is laughable. I have not tried scaling it up to a full loaf but if I do I’ll post that version.

Wow, excellent! Tastes just like the Steak & Ale bread. Yummy!!

It was very goopy with 30 minutes left and I thought it was a failure. Was I wrong. It did cook up just fine. I would recommend increasing the recipe by 2. I did the light crust and while it was good….maybe medium would be better.

This bread is so good! Thank you for sharing the recipe.

I made this recipe as written. I used the basic, light crust, 1.5 lbs size loaf settings on my bread machine. The finished product was a moist loaf of bread with a lot of flavor. I definitely will make this again. Thanks for sharing.

I wouldn’t change anything. I’m a novice bread machine user and this is the first bread I’ve made in it. It was easy to follow and it came out perfectly! I was hesitant to try it since there were some mixed reviews but from my limited research, I would say if it came out bad, then either the setting was wrong for the bread (make sure you use the white bread/basic setting even though it’s wheat bread technically, also I used light crust), the loaf size was wrong (I used 1.5 lb and it was perfect), or the ingredients were layered wrong. The recipe says to do liquid first then dry on top but your machine may call for the opposite so you need to read the manual. Also, the yeast cannot touch the liquid when you put it in. My machine manual said to put in the flour then dig a little well type of thing in the flour to sit the yeast in. The bread came out soft inside and nice crunchy outside crust. The flavor is really nice too. It’s the type of bread you want to keep eating, great accompaniment to dinner. 🙂 I followed the recipe exactly with the same exact ingredients as listed and it was perfect. I will continue making this bread pretty often!

It is good only mistake is that you need 3 cups of flour it only mentions 2, add one more of any of the flours mentioned.

I loved it. Didn’t change anything,I’m making more right now

I do not have a bread machine but it turned out great. Followed other reviewers recommendation to eliminate the sugar, used coffee instead of water and eliminated the coffee granules. Also added an egg which helps it rise. Wheat flour makes it a little sticky. When using wheat flour I always be sure to have some white flour and egg which helps it to rise. Even without the extra white sugar it is plenty sweet.

Perfect! My first whole wheat bread and it is perfect the way it’s written! Just making some honey butter and we are good ! Thank you for sharing! As of 2021 this recipe works just fine !

I followed the recipe exactly how it says and it turned out perfectly! I set my breadmachine for 1.5 lbs with medium crust. Whole family loved it!

Best bread ever! Whole family loved it. This will be a staple in our home.

I added a full tablespoon of yeast to make the loaf lighter. Did not affect the taste.

Recipe makes a great loaf as is, but it’s also a jumping-off point for more good stuff. I replaced the honey with molasses (twice as much because it isn’t as sweet), and half of the wheat flour with multigrain cereal (the stuff you cook – Bob’s Red Mill 10-grain gives it a little grainy crunch that I like).

This recipe was great! I recommend. All I say is that make sure to use extra strong coffee replacing the 3/4 water you need. You should really try this recipe. It’s Delicious!

Followed the recipe but omitted the instant coffee as I didn’t have any. Absolutely delicious! Light with great depth of flavor. I will definitely make again.

I made this in my older (like 20 years old) Breadman machine. It worked perfectly! I did adjust the recipe after changing the serving size on Allrecipes to 12 because my machine is for 1.50 pound loaves. I used coffee instead of the water, and I used honey instead of molasses. I also used Red Star cake yeast, which was odd to use and smells very funny (!) but worked out surprisingly well. We thought it tasted like Outback’s version of the bread, so everyone approves!

Very touchy recipe. The first time I tried didn’t rise well after hours of sitting on a very warm place. I gave up and baked it and it was a doughy mess. It tasted good so I tried again. Doubling it and it rose a bit better. Used a regular bread pan . It still took hours to rise but finally filled the pan and looked good. Was beautiful after I baked it but was still doughy in the center. I will try it one more time because it tastes good and has a nice texture. BUT leave it to bake LONG after it looks and sounds done.

Used this bread to make French toast. Best we ever had. Used iron skillet, topped with confectioners sugar, maple syrup and strawberries!

This is really good bread. Will make it again and again.

I could tell this would be a great recipe based on the submitter’s description and the ingredient list. I made it exactly to specifications and was very pleased with the results.
