I dont understand the cheese. Missed most important ingredient.
“Simple” was the word that caught my eye in selecting this recipe. I made it the day before and served it over pasta alongside a roasted chicken from Costco and a fresh fruit platter for my grandkids after a day at the lake. Perfect when all you need is a simple sauce for pasta! They loved it!
This whole page is wonderful. I’ve been cooking Italian food for our family for 65 years and these recipes are perfect. This page is going to my two granddaughters who are getting married this spring along with our family cookbook. Grazie
This is a great go-to recipe suitable for substitutions, i.e. crush or puree that can of whole tomatoes, grate or shred whatever cheese you have, add another herb or spice. Perfect when a, well, simple marinara is needed because time is short or the resident chef is devoting her or his main effort to making scratch pasta and spinach ricotta filling for ravioli or shells, or just hanging with friends enjoying music and libations. This Simple Marinara can be ready in less than an hour or simmered for much longer. If the sauce gets too thick, add broth, a little wine, or water. A little fresh basil when serving is just as simple and classy.
Very good. used diced tomatoes for some texture
Waaay too much oregano. I use only 3/4 t, but otherwise good sauce.
This is one of my new favorites. Everyone loved this. I made no changes.
A little hard to make, before you decide to use it for dinner 1 night, start cooking about an hour early. It does take 40 minutes to cook, and make sure to cover it. Will splatter everywhere.
Great recipe. Easy to make.
Great flavor, I don’t really like chunky sauces so I blended the tomatoes, made a nice, even, delicious sauce, besides that, added a bit more salt, and it was great!
This is a real tasty sauce where you can add mushrooms or hide vegetables and it’s so quick and easy. I get compliments from vegetarian son and our grandchildren love it.
Next time, I’ll sub basil for the parsley.
This was good as is. I added red pepper flakes to spice it up.
When I first made the sauce It was Delicious and really easy only thing I needed to use less oregano so I did exactly that. The second time I made it I put ground beef in it to turn it into a Bolognese sauce or something similar it tasted great both ways!
Wife likes this a lot. I pretty much followed the mix except-I used 2 teaspoons of minced garlic, I also added a jar of Prego alfredo sauce equal to the amount of tomatoe mix and added 1/2 a cup of sugar just before I put it to simmer. I also cooked some ground beef about 1.5 lbs and added the cooked beef to the sauce 10 minutes after I put the sauce to simmer. After I added the beef I turned up the heat until it was ready. I also didnt use parmesan or that other cheese but used a handful of colby jack cheddar cheese.
one of the worst marinara recipes i ever tasted
I was in a hurry to get dinner going for my family. I was out of sauce, so I just made this. While I only let it simmer for 20 mins., my family LOVED it. I’ll definitely make it again.
Love it … I make double batch and freeze half 🙂
VERY good, thank you for posting.
Tried this recipe on Sunday for company. Too much oregano! I used this to make baked ziti. Should it be 2 1/2 TEASPOONS oregano instead of tablespons?
Kind of tasted like sauce out of jar
