This is a tasty treat. As a child, I thought it sounded gross, but after tasting it skepticily, I realized it tastes like cake. Wonderfully quick and simple, perfect for when you only want one serving of a delicious treat. As a child, my mother occasionally gave me this. I am aware that she received the recipe from her mother. Since both of them have passed away, I’m posting this recipe in their honor.

Ingredients

  1. ½ cup butter flavored shortening
  2. 1 tablespoon water
  3. ½ cup white sugar
  4. 1 cup packed brown sugar
  5. 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  6. 2 egg whites
  7. 1 ¾ cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  8. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  9. ½ teaspoon salt
  10. ½ cup rolled oats
  11. ½ cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter flavored shortening, water, white sugar and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg whites and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; stir into the creamed mixture. Blend in the oats and mini chocolate chips. Drop dough by half-teaspoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.
  3. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes in the preheated oven, until the edges begin to brown. Remove from baking sheets to cool on wire racks. Cool at least 10 minutes before eating.

Absolutely delicious, I did make them a tablespoon in size tho so make sure to cook them for 12 min if you do that. Will 100% make again!

Very yummy! But it was quite watery — needed to add more flour, and more oats. Makes about 60-70 if very small.

I just made it. i gave it a 4 because, i found it a little too sweet.Maybe the white sugar should have been 3/4cup. The oatmeal should have been more which I added and the flour should have been 1.5 cups. All in all it was good, it came out crispy. The bake time is exactly 8 minutes. will bake again with the changes. thank you for the recipe.

Added butterscotch chips. Baked for 9 minutes. Put a piece of bread in ziplock bag to keeps cookies moist:)

This was a great recipe I don’t know if it was my fault or not but I found they stuck to the sheet even after the first batch and I added a little grease ? I used 2 tsp vanilla and 1/4 cup extra oats I think I would even add a little more oats next time . I also used flax meal instead of eggs I am vegan it worked fine . Very sweet treat

This was a great recipe. I used coconut oil instead of shortening. I also used whole wheat flour. The baking soda was a little too strong the first time so I only added half the second time and they were perfect! Kids and adults loved them. Thank you for such a great recipe!!

Cut the recipe in half because I didn’t want too many cookies… I used about 1 1/2 egg white instead for the half recipe, also used whole wheat flour (1/2 cup) and grinded up oats (1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons) as a substitute for white flour. I also used organic cane sugar instead of white. I also used regular butter to reduce the amount of processed food. Transformed the cookies to healthier and less processed cookies! Yummy! 🙂

These cookies were not the best i made a few the size of teaspoons and some half teaspoons and i did’nt get even 50. And after they baked they were paper thin. Yeah of course they’re gonna be 35 calories if their that small!!! they taste reasonable, the texture is not very good though.

My changes: All whole wheat flour, reduced brown sugar to 1/2 cup (still VERY sweet in my opinion), used one egg, reduced butter (used instead of shortening) to 6T and used 3T of applesauce, eliminated water, added 1/4 c ground flax, increased oats to 3/4 c. The result was a flat, delicious, moist, chewy cookie.

These cookies are amazing! They were the best snack ever!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing I would change is put them in the oven for less time. I put it in for the time it said and they turned out HARD… nut nothing a piece of fresh bread can’t fix. I put the piece of bread in at night and when I got up the cookies were so yummy and soft!!!!! This is one of the best chocolate chip recipe EVER! You rock ALISON!!!!!! Mmmmmmmmmmm

Oh my yummy, chewy goodness! Wonderful recipe! I cooked exactly as directed and they turned out so good. I took them out of the oven when they barely started browning on the edges. At first I thought I undercooked them, but it turned out that they were perfect. I loved that the oatmeal was not overpowering. I used large chocolate chips because that’s what I had. I think minis might be better because there’s not a lot of chocolate compared to regular choc chip recipes and it could “spread out” the chocolate flavor better. Are these really low fat? They sure don’t taste it. This is my new favorite cookie recipe. I don’t think I’ll ever make regular choc chip cookies again.

These were great with the changes I made. I used 1/2 cup of butter instead of the shortening, raw sugar instead of white, 1 cup whole wheat flour and 3/4 white flour, 2 tsp. vanilla, 2 whole eggs, 2 TBSP creamy peanut butter, and an extra half cup of oatmeal.

Remember people – it’s nutritional value PER SERVING; the reason it appears to be so low in fat is because it claims to make 100 cookies, one hundred from this amount of ingredients… I don’t think so – – maybe 36?

I really liked this recipe but I changed it a bit. I used 1/4c butter and 1/4c applesauce. And 1/3c white sugar and 1/3c brown sugar. I also used 1c flour and 1 1/4c oats. I cooked them for 10 min and they were nice and chewy inside. My husband didn’t even know they were better for him. They were gone in 2 days. I would have given it 5 stars but I changed some of the recipe.

sooooo good! I used one whole egg and it seemed to work fine. I’m not sure if my oven in acting up but I had to cook them longer than it says…i just kept an eye on them. But they are chewy in the middle and crunchy on the outside! Soo good!!

These cookies were pretty good. I used 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour and 1 cup of oatmeal. They are nice and chewy on the inside. And I just used butter instead of butter flavored shortening, guess they’re not low fat.

I usually hate Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies but my sister made these for me and they were awesome! We used whole eggs and put in some chopped walnuts! Mmmmm
