A quick and simple no-bake pie, this one. Add some whipped cream or topping as a garnish. You have the option of using a pre-made graham cracker crust.

Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 55 mins
Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  1. 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  2. 2 tablespoons butter, divided
  3. salt and ground black pepper to taste
  4. 1 pound ground beef
  5. 1 packet dry French onion soup mix
  6. 1 cube chicken bouillon
  7. 1 cube beef bouillon
  8. 2 tablespoons water (Optional)
  9. 1 (11 ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained
  10. 1 (10 ounce) can diced carrots, drained
  11. 1 (10 ounce) can peas, drained
  12. 2 tablespoons paprika
  13. 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Place potatoes into a large pot and cover with salted water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and transfer potatoes to a large bowl. Mash potatoes with 1 tablespoon butter using a potato masher or fork; season with salt and pepper.
  3. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir beef in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. Stir onion soup mix, chicken bouillon, and beef bouillon into ground beef; simmer until flavors blend, about 2 minutes. Add water if mixture is too dry.
  4. Spread ground beef mixture into the bottom of a 2-quart casserole dish; top with corn, carrots, and peas. Spoon mashed potato mixture over vegetable layer; sprinkle with paprika.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Sprinkle Cheddar cheese over mashed potato layer; continue baking until cheese is melted and bubbling, about 10 more minutes.
  6. Instant potatoes can be substituted for fresh potatoes. Follow the directions on the box to make the 5 to 6 serving size (2 2/3 cups).

My kids were sceptical, my last attempt at a Shepard’s pie was not great, I added a little more water to make almost a gravy, and not a single complaint! It was awesome!

I loved this recipe. It was easy to make & I made quite a few replacements. I did use potato flakes instead of real potatoes. I also did not have any bouillon, so I substituted with Sazon Goya. It came out excellent. I will be making this again.

It was tasty but didn’t fit my understanding of Shepherd’s Pie. Needs gravy.

Everyone loved it!!

I doubled the recipe, added some onion and fresh garlic to the meat as it was browning. Added a can of cream of mushroom soup warmed up with about 1/2 c. of water and 1 envelope of the dry soup mix. For the potatoes I added 1/3 c. cream cheese, same amount of sour cream, hot milk to get good consistency. Used frozen peas, corn and cooked fresh carrots. We loved it!

This recipe turned out great. I substituted ground turkey for the ground beef. I diced the potatoes for the mashed potatoes, covered them with water in my 3 qt. InstaPot and cooked them on manual for 5 minutes. I left them warming in the IP until I was ready for them. I steamed the carrots, peas, and corn in my 5 qt. InstaPot for 12 minutes and left them warming in the IP. I cooked the ground turkey and diced onion in a skillet and added the Lipton Onion Soup mix when the turkey was browned. I added enough chicken broth to moisten the mixture. From here I followed the recipe as written.

I would definitely make it again.

Great and simple recipe!

This was a very quick and easy dinner to make. I didn’t have the right kind of soup mix, and used one can of mixed peas and carrots and the family loved it. Definitely will make it again.

Enjoyed preparing this dish! I like a little spice, so I added some chorizo for a little extra zing.

My family loved this one!!! I added a package of brown gravy mix to the hamburger mixture and used box mashed potatoes. I did omit the peas because my teenagers dislike them. Lol,.. but kept the recipe the same otherwise and my family ate the entire pan! Gone! Super easy and simple! Yum!

I only added 1/2 of a beef bouillon cube and none of the chicken. With a whole envelope of soup mix it would have been WAY too salty!
Charles Underwood
It was a bit too salty, but even with that it was really good. Next time I will use half of the soup mix and half of the bouillon.

I’ve made it a few times, and its delicious. Only change I made was adding two tablespoons of Worchestershire sauce too ground beef.
James Martinez
I made it and was so delicious!

This was my first time eating and cooking sheperd pie. I didn’t have cheddar cheese, so I replaced it with parmesan cheese; it still tasted good. This dish was easy to make as a beginner

This is THE Best! Every time I’ve made Shepard’s pie to was bland. This was definitely not. I added roasted garlic to the mashed potatoes and 2 heaping tablespoons of minced garlic to the meat. Delicious!!

I Made this Last night for my honey’s Birthday, it was awesome! The only thing I changed was I added a Little More Butter and more Sour Cream, and omitted the Carrots because he doesn’t Like Cooked Carrots..other than that it’s fine. Everybody Loved it I will post pics Later Thank you!
