I made as described except I used a 2 Tbls. Tomato Paste (out of sauce) and I cooked 1 C of dry pinto beans until plump. I added them to the finished sauce. I used a bit of bean liquid to thin the sauce to our desired consistency. My husband said it was the best chili dog he’s ever eaten! He’s always honest so tells me if something is just “ok”. Will absolutely make this again!!

This was great. For those saying it was watery, basic cooking means simmer till at desired level of thickness. I did add a dash of Grace hot sauce. This reminds me of the chili DQ used to put on their dogs before they discontinued them. Delicious!

I added Baby Ray’s Sweet ‘n Spicy and Diamondback Sriracha, subbed the tomato sauce for some spaghetti sauce I had. Tastes awesome. Also diced up nacho jalapenos and put in it.

It’s delicious, close to my old recipe. Nothing better than a hotdog with chili.

Very good, easy to make but not quite like it’s made in a restaurant wit beef heart.

Love this recipe! So easy to make on a weeknight with pantry ingredients.

Used only two tsp of chili powder but otherwise followed the recipe. Very nice hot dog chili. Like others I would omit the sugar next time and would cook and drain the ground beef first (I used 80:20). Good consistency after simmering for a bit. Thanks for a good improvement over canned chili!

I love this recipe I found it several years ago and have made it over a dozen plus times it’s a big hit with my family so much so that when I’ve made chili cheese dogs are chili cheeseburgers they think that they can eat more than one just cause it taste so good, so thank you for this recipe a big hit in my family and I’m actually making it again today !! P.s… I mostly use turkey meat when I make it but a couple times I’ve used the beef. The irony is a lot of the times my family has no clue of which one I used. ‍♀️

I have use this chili for years and in its base state it is a great simple recipe. I however do not add any water because the burger generally is fine, but I will add some beef bullion to it, as well as some liquid smoke for more flavor. The only time I change, the recipe is really dependent upon the company that is coming over. Sometimes I add garlic, cumin, and various colored peppers. The hot sauce that I add, always varies depending on the company. In a nutshell don’t be afraid to try this as it is listed and make it your own with time. One other thing I do is do a slow simmer for upwards of 90 minutes to get that perfect consistency.

The flavor was pretty good I did add some garlic powder, red pepper flakes to taste, I did not drain it even though I knew I should have. It was so greasy following the recipe but I saved it at the end drained most of the grease off.. also it is a little runny if you want it thicker add tomato paste a little at a time until you get the consistency you like. my advice though cook the burger first drain it then put all in the pot to simmer for the 20 mins and you will have a decent, fast hotdog chili I tried this one because I didn’t have any fresh onions or peppers on hand that I do with my version.. just had spices on hand today.

Great chili… can use as sloppy also

Best hotdog chili I’ve tried! Make it every year for a big organization cookout. Thanks for the recipe!

Did not really like this. I’m from Texas and we don’t use ketchup in chili. I added some cumin and garlic powder to try and make it taste like I like it but it didn’t work. Won’t make again.

I put this chili on fries with cheese and my kids devoured it!

I make this yummy recipe X 20! The nonprofit organization, that my son in law started about 10 months ago, feed our homeless friends, in our area, one Saturday a month. Over the summer, we have served chili cheese hot dogs and nachos. This is a favorite for many. Thank you, for this simple recipe, that can be used to help others! Renee

I added an onion, chopped and cooked with the meat.

The recipe was simple and turned out well. I made a few changes by adding garlic powder, a touch of hot sauce and a little more chili powder. Overall, I would make it again.
Joshua Barton
Nice recipe. Left out the sugar and added cumin. Very good. Thanks.

Just made this last night. I followed the recipe exactly except that I fried the ground beef first and then added the sauce and spices. I let it cook down for about 20-25 min. It was delicious! Perfect hot dog chili or even alone on a bun. We will definitely be having this again!
