Ingredients
- 1 (8 ounce) package uncooked pappardelle pasta
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 (12 ounce) package Hillshire Farm Rope Smoked Sausage, cut into 1/2″ coins
- 1 (8 ounce) package sliced cremini mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 1 ¼ cups half-and-half
- 1 (4 ounce) package cream cheese
- 1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, divided
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup refrigerated prepared pesto
- ⅓ cup thinly sliced basil
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package directions; drain, reserving 1/2 cup pasta cooking water.
- Heat olive oil in a large high-sided skillet over medium-high. Add sausage and mushrooms and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned, about 6 minutes. Remove to a plate; carefully wipe the skillet clean as it may be hot.
- Melt butter in the same skillet over medium heat; cook garlic in hot butter, stirring occasionally, until garlic just begins to brown, 2 to 3 minutes. Add half-and-half and cream cheese; bring to a simmer, whisking constantly until smooth.
- Remove the skillet from heat. Stir in 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper until smooth. Add pasta and sausage mixture; toss to coat. Thin sauce with reserved pasta water if necessary.
- Serve in shallow bowls topped with pesto, basil, and remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese.

Super easy dish to make and tastes great! I added some cayenne pepper, garlic pepper, and garlic salt to the sausage and also added some shrimp to kick it up a notch and it was so yummy! And folks, if you think it’s bland, add some flare of your own!
This was nice. The whole family enjoyed it.
I made as directed all except the pesto and we really liked it. I used turkey smoked sausage, fat-free half and half, and Neufchatel cheese to cut the fat a bit and it was still very rich tasting. Any veg could be added. Next time, I might add some cauliflower. There will be a next time!
Very good. Used frozen peas instead of mushrooms. Could do without the pesto.
Yum!! It turned out great. I had to substitute the pasta for fettuccine cause I couldn’t find that type but I’m sure it tastes the same nonetheless! And I only put about 1 tbps of pesto cause I feel like 1/2 cup would’ve been overpowering.
The Alfredo sauce for this recipe is really good. I skipped the pesto and backed off the cream cheese a little bit to make it a little lighter and added pasta water to thin it out. My teenager, who also loves to cook, added sharp cheddar to his which gave the dish a nice, rich flavor. Since all I had was whipped cream cheese and turkey sausage I used that and it worked great. I can see chicken or shrimp being good in this recipe too. I also followed another’s suggestion and added peas.
This was amazing. I didn’t think my family would like the Pesto topping so I mixed a few tablespoons into the pasta right before serving. Otherwise, I made this recipe exactly as written. My husband (who claims he doesn’t like Pesto) said it was the best pasta he’s ever had.
Made as written, except used 2% milk with some extra butter in place of 1/2 & 1/2. Also, I did add some fresh spinach with the garlic and cooked it down. Overall, this was a nice, and quick, dinner for the two of us with leftovers for the next day.
This is a terrific, easy, quick meal that my family LOVED!! I didn’t have smoked sausage so I used Italian sausage, and followed all directions? as given.? I should note that it’s delicious with or without the pesto. Definitely a “repeat” for this family
I really liked this recipe. I made it as instructed. Except for the mushrooms. I do not like them so I omitted them. Was really easy to make and tasted great! Will def add into my normal rotation.
This was so easy, fast and absolutely delicious! I am adding this to my regular recipes for sure. I omitted the mushrooms (personal preference) and substituted creme Fraiche. This is a must try for sure.
This was a huge hit in our house. We loved the sauteed mushrooms mixed with the smokey sausage. Will absolutely make this again!
Very easy and satisfying recipe. On the table in a half hour uses pantry staples.
The only change I made was to use fettuccine because I couldn’t find any pappardelle pasta. This was good, but I think I would like it much better with Italian sausage and maybe less mushrooms, chopped smaller. Fresh spinach would also be a wonderful addition. Good, but nothing that really made it stand out above similar recipes. No rave reviews or asking for seconds from family.
This recipe was absolute indulgence! The next time I may add in some spinach but other than that it’s a great recipe!
Really good and easy to prepare. I had never made a white sauce with cream cheese before, and I was very pleased. It was easy to put together and thickened up nicely. I will definitely be making it again soon!
Really delicious. My daughter loved the flavor and was very happy with it. I did change 2 minor things. Could not find the pappardelle pasta so I used fettuccine. Also I’m the only one who would have ate it with mushrooms so I left them out I am very sad to say. Easy and quick to make for a nice weeknight meal.
This was very good and very yummy. I made no changes other than omitting the pesto on top. So easy and the kids asked for seconds!
This is change of pace. I used the pappardelle pasta, but believe fettuccine or linguine could be used with good outcomes. It’s easy enough to put together, but I don’t think extra salt is needed (especially if pesto is used). I used the turkey smoked sausage and fat free half & half to lighten it up. tasty recipe!
This was AWESOME. I was very iffy on giving it to my kids but both asked for seconds. The pesto and sausage added great flavor to an otherwise normal creamy pasta dish. Paired with the garlic and basil, it was delicious. I omitted the mushrooms as I’m the only one who would eat them. I was asked to please incorporate this into our monthly dinner rotations!
This was really very yummy—and rich! It will make a nice dish to go with a garden salad. I didn’t have the fresh basil, but it was really delicious even with a sprinkling of dried basil. I would definitely advise you to keep some of the pasta water because the sauce does get quite thick. Our bellies are very happy tonight! We loved the smoked sausage! Thanks, Hillshire Farms!
