Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  1. 1 (16 ounce) package ziti pasta
  2. 2 pounds ground beef
  3. 1 medium onion, chopped
  4. 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  5. 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  6. 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  7. 1 (28 ounce) jar vodka marinara sauce
  8. 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  9. 1 (16 ounce) package cottage cheese
  10. 2 ½ cups milk
  11. 6 large eggs
  12. salt and ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a large baking dish.
  2. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add ziti and cook at a boil until tender yet firm to the bite, 9 to 11 minutes.
  3. While the ziti is cooking, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and onion to the hot skillet and cook until beef is browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, oregano, and garlic powder; cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Drain and discard grease. Stir in marinara sauce.
  4. Drain ziti and transfer to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle 1/2 of the mozzarella cheese over top, then layer with cottage cheese, meat sauce, and remaining mozzarella. Beat milk, eggs, salt, and pepper together in a bowl, and pour over top.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until set and bubbly, about 45 minutes.

Super easy to make. I halved the recipe and probably had 6 servings instead of 4. I find recipes made with ricotta to be creamier than what this ziti was with the cottage cheese. Next time, I would salt the ground beef as it cooks. Putting the milk and eggs on top was new to me, and I wasn’t sure how that would turn out. I did poke holes in the ziti with a spatula so that it would absorb the milk mixture. Overall, a pretty decent dinner with a spinach salad on the side.
