For Halloween dinner, try this frightening chili! The little ones can eat whenever while trick-or-treating if you keep it warm on the stove.

Ingredients

  1. 1 (5 ounce) can chunk light tuna in water, drained and flaked
  2. 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  3. 1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
  4. 1 ½ teaspoons creamy prepared horseradish
  5. 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  6. 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  7. 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Mix tuna, mayonnaise, yellow mustard, horseradish, lemon juice, garlic powder, and salt together in a bowl.
  2. I eyeball it, and these are just estimates of measurements. Give it a try and add more of whatever you may like. Great with tiny diced pickles (not as sweet as relish and more of a texture to bite into).

Very good but one or two mushed-up anchovies or a 1.5 in. or so squeeze of anchovy paste sends it into warp drive (even if your diners claim to hate anchovies. Shush!). I have also added chopped celery and/or chopped stuffed olives if going for more of a tuna salad. Wasabi can be used along with or in place of mustard and horseradish. You can fool around with different combinations but lemon juice and, of course, mayo are essential. Experiment.

This was great as is but as a thrifty Connecticut Yankee I decided to substitute some local crisp apples diced and some dried cranberries – my children loved it (repeated 3 times so far) a real winner.

Great option …… But I like avocado and diced hard boiled egg in mine also, it’s something my mom made back in the ’70’s when we lived in Hawaii. I also like to mince some pickled jalapeno … IF I don’t use pickles.;-)

I MADE IT LIKE IT WAS WRITTEN BUT NEVER ADDED MORE HORSERADISH BUT DID GO FOR CELERY AND ONIONS DICED. LOVED IT.

I loved the idea of adding horseradish to the salad. I love the taste of it and I will go gently with it because too much makes me cough and sneeze. I would add pickle relish to it as that is how I’ve always done. Cutting up pickles is a time waster to me. Everything else is on the money!

Great tuna recipe but I put in 1/4 cup diced celery, 1/4 cup diced onion and 2tbs pickle relish. I also cut back on horseradish.

I made two batches in separate bowls. The original recipe was sort of okay. For the 2nd one I spread it on toasted Brioche bread and put 2 slices of Swiss cheese on it, put in microwave for 40 seconds and it turned out pretty good. Bottom line is would you make it again? I think I would pass. There are too many other tuna spreads for crackers.

I liked the recipe. I made it exactly as described. The horseradish gave this a distinct added flavor. I wouldn’t add more horseradish. I think it would then overpower the taste of the tuna. I’d give it 4 1/2 stars if I could.

The 3 stars is on the recipe as written because horseradish and mustard…yum ! But when I tried it on butter crackers, it was only okay. The next day I added celery and onions and now I really like it. So thanks for starting a new tuna salad recipe for me.

I am a real canned tuna fan. Therefore I am always willing to try something new. As I love all the ingredients I went for it. So glad I did. I used a sold white tuna in water, Dijon instead of yellow mustard but the balance of the ingredients remained the same. It was GREAT ! I agree with other reviewers that other personal preferences can be added and will tweak the next time I make it . A real winner!

Love your Zippy Tuna Ari. I’m like you. A pinch of this and a dash of that. I make this similar recipe when serving tuna as an appetizer. I don’t put nearly as much mustard but I add finely diced onions. Love it!!!

I made it, but cut back all the ingredients by 25%, as my honey is sensitive to spicy foods. I would make it again with all the horseradish and no mustard. We frequently have tuna on crackers as a light summer lunch, and I wanted something different.

Zippy tuna is an accurate name, as it is zippy. I really liked this tuna. I added some celery and onions as a personal preference. It would be really good on crackers too.

Very simple… I used 2 cans of tuna and cut the horseradish to only 1/2 teaspoon. I like horseradish but my boyfriend isn’t a fan. I also added green onions.
