Level: Easy
Total: 25 min
Active: 25 min
Yield: 4

Ingredients

  1. Vegetable oil, for oiling the grill grates
  2. 1 1/2 pounds ground beef sirloin
  3. 1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano
  4. 1 garlic clove, grated
  5. Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  6. 4 slices provolone cheese
  7. 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  8. 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
  9. 4 seeded hamburger buns, split
  10. Fresh basil leaves, for topping
  11. Giardiniera, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare an outdoor grill for medium-high heat.
  2. Gently mix the beef, oregano, garlic and 1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper in a medium bowl until just combined.
  3. Shape the meat into 4 6-ounce patties, about 5-inches in diameter. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty and lightly sprinkle the outside of the patties with salt and pepper. Lightly oil the grill grates. Grill to desired doneness, about 4 minutes per side for medium, adding a slice of cheese to each burger during the last minute of cooking.
  4. Mix the mayonnaise and balsamic vinegar together in a small bowl. Quickly toast the buns on the grill for about 1 minute and then spread with some of the mayonnaise mixture. Top with a burger and then some fresh basil leaves. Serve with giardiniera on the side.
