Ingredients

  1. Nonstick cooking spray, for the baking sheet
  2. 6 frozen dinner roll dough balls, thawed according to package instructions
  3. 6 hot dogs
  4. 1/4 cup baking soda
  5. 1 large egg, beaten
  6. 1 teaspoon pretzel salt
  7. 1 cup spicy mustard
  8. Pickles, for serving

Instructions

  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray and set aside.
  2. Roll each dinner roll into a long rope approximately 1 1/2 to 2 times the length of a hot dog. Coil each rope around a hot dog, pinching the ends to seal them so they cannot come loose.
  3. Add the baking soda to the boiling water, then, working in batches, drop the pretzel dogs into the water for 30 seconds and remove to a rack.
  4. When all the dogs have been boiled, place them on the greased baking sheet. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with pretzel salt.
  5. Bake until the bread ropes are cooked and have turned golden brown, about 12 minutes. Serve with spicy mustard and pickles.

I was skeptical of these, but they were great!! I used Rhodes frozen rolls.

These look great. I plan on making them this weekend. I might sprinkle everything bagel seasoning on them before baking.

I have a question would this work being cooked in an air fryer and toaster oven?

Loved this recipe! My dough didn’t stick on all my little piggies while boiling, but I re-wrapped the ends once I took them out of the water, and everything turned out fine. Great recipe to add to my book! Thanks Ree!

Making these for Halloween Mummy dogs!

My husband loves these so much I had to make them two days in a row. Such a nice change from plain old hotdogs in a bun.

So easy and fun to make. Used pizza dough and margarita salt. Big hit with my family!

So good! I used Nathan bun length dogs and Bridgford parkerhouse rolls. The roll were defrosted in about an hour at room temp. I found that the bun length dogs really needed 1.5 rolls each to cover. Get that snake long before wrapping. Then next time I would boil for a full minute rather than just 30 seconds. We sprinkled half with kosher salt and the other half with everything bagel seasoning but honestly they don’t need anything sprinkled as the hotdogs are salty enough. I will definitely be making these again. Very easy and delicious!
