Level: Easy
Total: 35 min
Prep: 10 min
Cook: 25 min
Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  1. 4 slices thick cut bacon (recommended: Oscar Mayer)
  2. 4 hearty beef franks (recommended: Ball Park)
  3. 1 white onion, sliced in rings
  4. 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  5. Hot Dog buns
  6. Sauerkraut (recommended: Claussen)
  7. Nacho rings (recommended: Embassa)
  8. Sweet relish (recommended: Vlasic)
  9. Yellow mustard
  10. Ketchup

Instructions

  1. Set up grill for direct cooking over medium heat. Oil grate when ready to start cooking.
  2. Cook bacon slices in a microwave oven for about 1 minute, or pan fry until the edges begin to curl but the bacon is still flexible. Drain well.
  3. Wrap each frank in a slice of bacon, securing the ends with toothpicks; set aside.
  4. Toss onion slices with olive oil. Grill bacon-wrapped franks and onion slices on hot oiled grill, for 4 to 5 minutes per side (16 to 20 minutes total). Turn onions everytime you turn franks.
  5. Serve hot on toasted buns with lots of condiments.
  6. INDOOR: Prepare dogs as directed. Preheat broiler. Place dogs on wire rack over foil-lined baking sheet or broiler pan. Place under broiler 4 to 6 inches from heat source and cook 3 to 4 minutes per side or until bacon is crispy.

I made these on the George Foreman grill, they were delicious. Next time I will get bigger buns though! Didn’t know what nacho rings were so just used the other stuff and they were sooo good!

This is a man’s dream dog! lol. Yes, they easily burn if you’re the type to wander away from the kitchen….when she says 3-4 minutes on each side, she MEANS 3-4 minutes on each side. (i found out the hard way) Other than that, its fast, simple and taste great! (in moderation)

i first made these on july 4th 2007 && they were a HUGE hit. i have made them many, many times since. my friends even come over && ask me to make them. i am very pleased by this recipe. && in reference to the review where the bacon caught fire…my opinion is she wasn’t keeping an eye on things. they cook up quick, especially over an open fire. this is the cooks fault, not the recipe. i’d recommend making these tonight, u won’t be disappointed.

We have made the fountain dogs several times now… It has become one of my husband’s favorite’s. He walked into the living room when I was watching the show and said make those tonight for dinner, they look good… So i did. The bacon wrap was a really nice touch to the dog and the toppings were very filling . I have done them under the broiler, on the grill and on the forman, and they came out great!! As far as other people burning the wrapped bacon… they just need to pay a little more attention.. The recipe can’t get any more easier! Sandra thanks for the recipe… it has been added to our favorites!! 🙂

We really wern’t impressed by these dogs. Not much better than average every day hot dogs — not worth the added effort and $$.

I tried these the other night and they were a big hit

Given that pretty much no one really needs a recipe to make a hot dog, I was expecting a lot more from this one.
